When you're a New York Jets fan, it's hard to see the positive side of things year after year. In fairness, it's difficult to see the light when the season is practically over before Halloween even rolls around. 2026 is no different, at least in that sense.
The Jets have a dead-man walking at head coach, an entire staff that can't seem to maximize the talents of its best players, and a tough schedule on the horizon that should only pose bigger threats to New York's slim chances of turning the season around.
But all hope is not lost, Jets fans.
There is so much talent on the roster, particularly on the offensive side of the ball, that it should be incredibly attractive to any potential head coaching candidates during the next hiring cycle. They boast three first-round picks in an upcoming draft class that has been touted as one of the best in recent memory.
It's hard to keep the faith year after year, when things have gotten so bad that MetLife Stadium was filled to half capacity with Las Vegas Raiders fans this past Sunday. But trust us when we say that the future is bright with the Jets, even if that's hard to believe right now.
2027 could genuinely be the start of a new era for the New York Jets
As many problems as the roster has right now, general manager Darren Mougey is likely safe, regardless of what happens to Glenn. He'll likely be tasked with leading the search for the next head coach.
Considering all the assets the Jets have available to them, they should be an attractive destination for any of the leading candidates in the upcoming hiring cycle. The chance to take over such a strong offensive infrastructure, along with having the chance to get their own rookie quarterback, is enough to draw in the best of the best.
The defense needs the most work right now. New York has a very clear lack of playmakers on that side of the ball, and it feels like the best way to address that problem is to dedicate their other two first-round picks to the defense.
The Jets aren't far away from competing. The roster they currently have has enough talent to be hanging around the rest of the league as a .500 team. They just lack the coaching that should kick them up another notch.
One of these years, it's all going to click. They just need the right guy at the top who ties it all together and gets this ship sailing in the right direction.
