Officially, the New York Jets are in the final weeks of an offseason that began immediately following a Week 18 loss to the Bills back in January.

Unofficially? Perhaps the Jets are actually seven months into the offseason rather than five.

CBS Sports’ Josh Edwards praised the Jets earlier this week, ranking their offseason as the third-best leaguewide.

Interestingly, Edwards argued that last November’s Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams trades technically started the process two months early.

"Those moves were made in an effort to provide the organization with the necessary resources to find its quarterback of the future and also surround that player with the talent to win."

By parting ways with Gardner and Williams, the Jets acquired three first-round picks, the No. 44 pick (which they traded, later selecting Indiana cornerback D’Angelo Ponds at No. 50), Colts receiver Adonai Mitchell, and Cowboys defensive tackle Mazi Smith.

Mitchell appears assured of a starting spot following a strong offseason, while Smith is on the roster bubble.

Edwards ranked the Browns and Raiders above the Jets.

The Jets’ 2026 offseason approach has earned them continued praise

Edwards came away especially impressed with the Jets’ emphasis on building a stable offensive core for their next quarterback.

Seriously. The Jets are earning kudos for their offense.

Not only did the Jets draft Indiana receiver Omar Cooper Jr. and Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq, but they extended running back Breece Hall before Dolphins star De’Von Achane cashed in.

The Jets had already extended Wilson. Although Edwards did not reference Joe Tippmann’s new contract, we must note that the veteran guard signed a four-year, $62 million extension (with $31 million in guaranteed money) earlier this week.

Naturally, the next question is what quarterback will take advantage of those weapons in 2027.

As of now, Geno Smith is entrenched as the Week 1 starter, though he is a pending free agent.

The Jets used a fourth-round pick on Clemson’s Cade Klubnik. However, it remains unclear whether Klubnik will realistically challenge Bailey Zappe for the backup job, or if the Jets would prefer he spend the year developing.

Edwards did not make a 2027 quarterback projection. Unsurprisingly, Texas’ Arch Manning and Oregon’s Dante Moore have been linked to the Jets in the way-too-early mock drafts.

Any hopes of the Jets potentially taking Brendan Sorsby in the supplemental draft ended on Tuesday, courtesy of the NFL opting not to even hold the event.

Whoever the quarterback is in Week 1 next year, Edwards is giving them a reason to believe they can succeed in New York.

You love to see it.
