Knock on wood, but the New York Jets may actually field a competent offense in 2026.
Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson are established playmakers, while rookies Omar Cooper Jr. and Kenyon Sadiq are likely Day 1 starters.
Then, there’s receiver Adonai Mitchell, who is rapidly making his case to be a crucial weapon in the Jets’ new-look offense.
Jets coach Aaron Glenn clearly likes what he’s seen from Mitchell, praising the third-year wideout on Tuesday morning.
Glenn said he’s especially pleased with how well Mitchell is working with both quarterback Geno Smith and offensive coordinator Frank Reich.
“He’s a talented player, a very talented player, and we want to squeeze every ounce of his athleticism to where he can help us and be able to make big plays for us, because he has that ability,” Glenn told reporters.
Mitchell followed through during Tuesday’s practice, connecting with Smith on a leaping grab during 11-on-11.
Aaron Glenn is officially an Adonai Mitchell believer
Let the record continue showing that The Jet Press has spent the offseason as the Adonai Mitchell hype train’s conductor.
The early reviews on Mitchell throughout offseason workouts have been glowing, and he’s on pace to open the year in the starting lineup.
It remains unclear whether Cooper, the No. 30 pick, will also be a Day 1 starter. However, barring injury, it’s difficult to envision Tim Patrick or Isaiah Williams playing above Cooper.
Mitchell finds himself in an excellent position because he not only flashed after arriving last November, but he’s a young player with a new offensive coordinator.
Keep in mind that Mitchell doesn’t turn 24 until October and has two years remaining on his rookie deal. If the Jets didn’t believe in him, they almost certainly could have found a suitor this offseason.
Teams crave affordable receivers, and Mitchell checks plenty of boxes.
Earning the positive feedback now, both from Smith and the Jets’ coaching staff, bodes well for Mitchell’s chances to burst onto the scene in a big way.
Opposing defenses will prioritize stopping Wilson, and the Jets have three tight ends — Sadiq, Mason Taylor, and Jeremy Ruckert — who can block and catch passes.
We’re not far from starting the Adonai Mitchell show, so grab your tickets early. Things are about to get very fun.
