The 5 worst Jets home games of the MetLife Stadium era

With MetLife Stadium (or temporarily New York New Jersey Stadium) playing host to several World Cup matches, and of course, the World Cup Final, some demoralizing statistics regarding the New York Jets and their home turf have emerged.

For example, Norwegian superstar Erling Haaland managed to score four goals in the Jets' own stadium, while Gang Green managed to score only one offensive touchdown in their last two home games in 2025.

Since the inaugural season in 2010, the Jets have managed a lowly record of 59-73 in their shared building with the Giants, a fairly abysmal mark considering you're supposed to have somewhat of an advantage on your own field.

It really makes you think about just how bad of luck the Jets have had since the opening of MetLife Stadium in 2010, and the horrendous games they've played there since.

Worst Jets games ever played at MetLife Stadium

Week 16, 2011 vs. Giants (29-14)

Before this game, the Jets boasted an 11-4 record at MetLife Stadium and seemed primed for their third straight playoff appearance under the guidance of Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez.

Then, the team of destiny appeared in front of them.

Both teams entered the Christmas Eve matchup with the playoffs on the line, with the Giants at 7-7 and the Jets at 8-6.

The Giants would eventually come out on top, in large part thanks to a 99-yard touchdown from Eli Manning to Victor Cruz. It would send the Jets spiraling towards their next 15 years of despair and propel Big Blue towards their second Super Bowl victory in four years.

Things have just never been the same for the Jets since the day these two teams took the field in 2011.

Week 7, 2019 vs. Patriots (33-0)

Skipping ahead eight years here, the Jets started the 2019 season in an 0-4 hole. Quarterback Sam Darnold missed Weeks 2 through 4 with mononucleosis, but bounced back in a big way with a resounding Week 6 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

Up next was a home tilt on Monday Night Football against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, a prime opportunity for the Jets to show they were going to be a different team with Darnold under center.

Instead, disaster ensued.

In what can only be referred to as the "seeing ghosts" game, Darnold ended up throwing four interceptions in the 33-0 blowout, and was caught on an ESPN hot mic lamenting what Bill Belichick and the Patriots defense were throwing at him.

The Jets would lose two more after this to start the 2019 season in a 1-7 hole, and Darnold's career in New York never recovered.

Week 16, 2022 vs. Jaguars (19-3)

The 2022 season was the last time the Jets played any sort of meaningful football late into the season. After starting the season 7-4, there was legitimate hope that the playoff drought might come to an end.

Instead, the quarterback carousel of Zach Wilson and Mike White spun back to Wilson, and he was thrust into the starting lineup ahead of a Thursday Night Football matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, a game both teams needed to stay in the hunt for the AFC Wildcard race.

Wilson froze like a deer in the headlights on primetime, throwing for 92 yards and an interception for good measure before being benched for Chris Streveler late in the third quarter.

Morale was so bad at MetLife Stadium at this point that the Jets faithful who managed to stay for the rain-soaked fourth quarter lost their marbles for a wobbly 30-yard Streveler pass to C.J. Uzomah, but it didn't end up mattering.

The Jets would be eliminated from playoff contention the following week in Seattle, and they haven't gotten any closer to playing meaningful games in December since.

Week 12, 2023 vs. Dolphins (34-13)

One day, it will be a little-known football trivia fact that the first-ever NFL game played on Black Friday was between the Jets and Dolphins at MetLife Stadium in November, 2023.

Of course, that game was supposed to feature Aaron Rodgers at quarterback for the Jets, but that's due to a whole other game that didn't make the list.

After Zach Wilson flamed out once again, the Jets turned to journeyman veteran Tim Boyle to try to salvage their season at 4-6. Instead, Miami stuck a fork in any hopes the Jets had of turning their year around.

Back-to-back Tua Tagovailoa interceptions before halftime gave the Jets some life, including a Brandin Echols pick-six that resulted in the only touchdown of the day for the home team.

But Boyle's two interceptions, including an attempted Hail Mary before halftime that Dolphins safety Jevon Holland returned for a 99-yard touchdown, snuffed out any hope for a Jets victory.

Week 4, 2024 vs. Broncos (10-9)

The Jets did eventually get around to the Aaron Rodgers era, just a year later than they had anticipated. It started off pretty well, too, with a 2-1 record heading into a home tilt with the Denver Broncos.

But on another rain-soaked afternoon at MetLife Stadium, the Jets would once again have their hearts crushed, this time by Sean Payton and rookie quarterback Bo Nix.

Rodgers (who may or may not have suffered a Grade-2 hamstring strain) didn't play well. He completed 24 of 42 passes and was unable to lead the Jets offense to any touchdowns.

Greg Zuerlein missed a 50-yard field goal with 47 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to cost New York the game.

It was weird. The Jets dropped to just 2-2 on the season, but for whatever reason, it felt like the season had ended. Those feelings proved accurate as New York would go on to lose eight of their next nine games to start the 2024 season 3-10.
