In the latest episode of The Jet Press Podcast, Justin Fried and Mike Luciano discuss the Brendan Sorsby situation and how absurd it is, Joe Tippmann's extension, the New York Jets' defensive line as a position group, and play some Jets-themed Connections.
Justin and Mike kicked things off by discussing the ridiculous Brendan Sorsby saga. With the former Texas Tech quarterback now headed to the NFL Supplemental Draft after a whirlwind legal battle with the NCAA, the guys discussed just how absurd the entire situation has become.
They also debated whether the Jets should place a bid on Sorsby, whether they actually will, and what round of compensation might make sense for a player whose talent is undeniable but who will come with obvious red flags.
The conversation then shifted to Joe Tippmann's contract extension. Beyond the value of the deal itself (which was excellent), Justin and Mike examined what the extension means for the organization's long-term plan.
Every projected offensive starter outside of Geno Smith is now under contract through at least the 2027 season, as the Jets have quietly built an offensive foundation that could make life much easier for whatever quarterback they eventually draft.
The duo also continued their position-by-position breakdown of the Jets roster, this time focusing on the defensive line. While much of the attention has centered on players like Will McDonald and rookie David Bailey, the discussion highlighted several under-the-radar names who could play larger roles.
The likes of David Onyemata, Joseph Ossai, and Jowon Briggs were all discussed at length. Justin and Mike broke down the unit's strengths, depth, and why both the floor and ceiling of the group may be higher than conventional wisdom would suggest.
Finally, Justin put Mike to the test with a Jets-themed Connections game. Play along at home and see if you can figure out the categories quicker than Mike did!
