The New York Jets have spent the last few months taking care of their own, and on Monday, Darren Mougey continued that trend, reporting agreeing to terms on a four-year extension with standout offensive guard Joe Tippmann.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reporting Monday morning that the Jets and Tippmann have reached a deal, while ESPN's Rich Cimini added that the deal is worth $62 million ($15.5 million AAV) and comes with $31 million in new guarantees.
The move comes on the heels of Breece Hall's extension last month and continues a trend under Mougey and this regime. Rather than allowing negotiations to linger into the season, the Jets have made a point of locking up key pieces of their young core well ahead of schedule.
Tippmann always felt like the next most obvious candidate. The former second-round pick was entering the final year of his rookie contract and has developed into one of the cornerstones of the Jets' offensive line over the last two seasons.
Jets continue investing in their offensive foundation with Joe Tippmann extension
Tippmann has started all 17 games in each of the last two seasons and became a full-time right guard after Alijah Vera-Tucker suffered a season-ending injury just prior to the start of the 2025 season.
The move proved beneficial for both Tippmann and the Jets. While his overall 66.0 Pro Football Focus grade was perfectly league-average, his performance improved significantly as the season progressed.
From Weeks 8 through 18, Tippmann posted an 81.9 PFF pass-blocking grade, ranking among the top five guards in football over that stretch. He allowed just 11 pressures in those final 10 games and formed a promising partnership alongside rookie right tackle Armand Membou.
The Jets appear fully committed to Tippmann at guard moving forward. Despite entering last offseason in a competition with Josh Myers for the starting center job, Tippmann never moved back inside after Vera-Tucker's injury and has continued to thrive on the right side.
The Jets now have Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall, Olu Fashanu, Armand Membou, Tippmann, and others under contract as long-term building blocks on offense. With training camp approaching next month, another major piece of business is already out of the way.
This is a sensible move for a player entering his prime and another sign that the Jets are prioritizing continuity around a young offensive core they believe can grow together for years to come.
Trust in the Moog, folks. He's getting the job done.
