After months of speculation about whether or not the New York Jets were going to extend Breece Hall or not, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported on Friday afternoon that the Jets and Hall agreed to terms on a three-year, $45.75 million extension.

The $15.25 million annual average value makes Hall the third-highest paid running back in the league, coming in just behind Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley and San Francisco 49ers dual-threat Christian McCaffrey.

In the end, Hall gets a nice little bump from the $14.29 million he was expected to make on the franchise tag in 2026 and gets some well-deserved security for the future.

On the Jets' side of things, they keep their featured running back under contract for at least the next three seasons and take care of a homegrown talent.

Jets get Breece Hall under contract before RB market explodes

Darren Mougey and the Jets front office were incredibly wise to try to get this deal done when they did. Of course, Mougey made it clear that they would resume extension talks after the 2026 NFL Draft, but no one likely thought it would get done this soon.

It's obvious the Jets were trying to get Hall to sign on the dotted line before the running back market explodes. Why would it jump so much? Arguably, the two best backs in football are set to sign new deals this offseason, with both Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs eligible for extensions.

The Atlanta Falcons star, Robinson, is expected to ink a three-year, $56.6 million extension, per Spotrac, surpassing Hall for the third-highest paid running back in the league, but not eclipsing Barkley or McCaffrey.

Gibbs, meanwhile, is expected to come in just behind Barkley, with Spotrac expecting the Detroit Lions star to sign a three-year, $60.4 million contract, making him the second-highest-paid running back in the league.

It remains unclear when Robinson and Gibbs will get their contracts, but it's expected to happen at some point this summer. Had the Jets waited to get a deal done with Hall, his price tag would've only gone up.

Mougey and his staff in the front office were proactive when it came to Hall's contract, and that should be music to Jets fans' ears. Hopefully, every negotiation goes just as smoothly as this throughout his tenure in New York.
