Former NY Jets head coach Rex Ryan has never been one to shy away from speaking his mind, and much like many Jets fans, Ryan is extremely optimistic about his former team heading into the 2023 season.

Ryan spoke about the Jets on Sunday NFL Countdown this weekend, and he said that Gang Green is his pick to win the Super Bowl this year. He took it one step further, too.

Ryan claimed that the current Jets roster is the best the franchise has had in its 64-year history. That includes the back-to-back AFC Championship Game rosters that Ryan himself coached a little over a decade ago.

"This is my Super Bowl winner. This is the most talented roster the Jets have ever had. And I don’t care — way more talent on defense than I had."

The arrival of Aaron Rodgers has left many bullish on the state of the Jets' roster, and Ryan is chief among them. He not only believes that this is one of the best rosters in the NFL, but he believes that this is the best roster in Jets history.

Is this the best roster in NY Jets history?

While Ryan has been known to share some outlandish takes in the past, he has a leg to stand on with this one. The Jets traded for a future Hall-of-Fame quarterback to pair with an outstanding defense and some exciting young playmakers on offense.

This Jets' roster is loaded with potential Pro Bowl/All-Pro talent. Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, Quinnen Williams, Breece Hall, Alijah Vera-Tucker, D.J. Reed, C.J. Mosley, and numerous others could all make a case to be among the best players at their position.

Of course, the Jets haven't proved anything yet. That's a point that head coach Robert Saleh tried to drive home on "Hard Knocks" this summer. Until the Jets prove that they're worth the hype, none of this talk matters.

The Jets might have one of the best rosters in the NFL on paper, but paper doesn't win football games. They'll be given their first opportunity to prove that they deserve the promotion and the headlines when they take on the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football tonight.

Under the bright lights of primetime, Rodgers and the Jets will have an opportunity to prove to the NFL world that they belong in the conversation of the league's elite teams. It's a tall order in Week 1, but it's also a golden opportunity.

Rex Ryan isn't alone in his belief that this is the best roster in Jets history, but until they prove it on the field, those conversations can't seriously be had. Monday night is the first test.
