Jets named top landing spot for Brendan Sorsby despite obvious mistake

Should the Jets do this?

The New York Jets need a long-term plan at quarterback. If you're a long-time fan, you're probably tired of reading that sentence, but it's true.

In 2026, the Jets have their bridge quarterback in Geno Smith, and took a dart throw on fourth-rounder Cade Klubnik to be their developmental backup in April's draft.

But all of a sudden, another quarterback prospect has become available to the Jets, and that's controversial college quarterback Brendan Sorsby. The former Texas Tech signal caller is headed for the supplemental draft, despite winning a legal battle for eligibility in 2026.

New York will have the opportunity to bid on Sorsby in the upcoming NFL Supplemental Draft, and some analysts believe the Jets are a good fit for the young quarterback.

Jets tabbed as good fit for Brendan Sorsby, but they should stay away

Bleacher Report's Alex Kay believes the Jets should take a shot on Sorsby and look to bring the young quarterback into their ranks.

"The New York Jets weren't able to land a blue-chip quarterback prospect in the 2026 draft, but they now have another chance to take a shot on one... Cade Klubnik is a decent developmental prospect who could benefit from working behind Geno Smith for a year, the Jets can increase their chances of a viable young starter emerging in the next couple seasons by taking a chance on Brendan Sorsby."

Despite Kay's insistence that the Jets could use a prospect like Sorsby in the mix, the Jets shouldn't feel the pressure of adding another quarterback right this second.

Klubnik is fine for the time being and has already been present for OTAs and minicamp, even though he has missed some on-field time due to a back injury.

Add in the fact that the Jets would likely have to give up a 2027 Day 2 pick for the controversial quarterback's services, and it makes even less sense for the Jets to make a move for Sorsby.

All offseason, the Jets have made it clear they're going to wait until the 2027 NFL Draft to finally solve their long-term quarterback issue.

Armed with three first-round draft picks, New York will have the opportunity to move up the board to land a signal caller of their choosing, and one with fewer question marks than Sorsby has.

In the NFL, just because you can do something doesn't mean you should, and the Jets would be making a mistake adding Sorsby.
