The New York Jets and the Detroit Lions face off in Week 3. Both teams are 1-1 and coming off losses in Week 2. While this is a reunion for head coach Aaron Glenn, for the Jets to come away with the win, they'll need their best players to ball out, and receiver Garrett Wilson should be at the top of the list.

The offense needs to do more and generate big plays. For that to happen, they need to make sure Wilson is heavily involved in the game plan.

He's no doubt WR1 in New York, and the Jets have no reason not to get him 10-plus targets in this contest.

New York Jets need to feed Garrett Wilson against Lions in Week 3

After a strong showing in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans, New York's offense fell flat against Green Bay. Against the Titans, Wilson led the team in targets (seven), catches (six), and receiving yards (79). Although they were run first in that contest, Wilson was unguardable, and the Jets' pass game ran through him.

Yet, in the loss to the Packers, New York didn't do enough to get the ball into the hands of their best receiver. Wilson finished the game with five catches for 57 yards and a score on seven targets. Adonai Mitchell led the way with 12 targets, with Isaiah Williams getting six and Breece Hall getting another five.

There's no problem spreading the ball around and looking to get several players involved, but Wilson should and must remain the focal point in the passing game. Week in and week out, he should lead the team in targets.

With the Lions next up, this is the perfect game for the Jets to put that into action. Detroit's defense has been abysmal to start the year. They are ranked 31st in the NFL in total defense (457.5), pass defense (310.5), and scoring defense (35.5).

That secondary is without their star safety duo, Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph, for this one. They just placed Avonte Maddox on IR, who was plugged to start at safety.

In the cornerback room, former Jet D.J. Reed is CB1, with other guys like Rock Ya-Sin, Christian Izien, and Roger McCreary filling in elsewhere.

There's no one on that roster who can keep up with and stop Wilson. In Week 1, Chris Olave torched Detroit for 10 catches and 182 receiving yards. One week later, tight end Dalton Kincaid led the way for the Bills with 95 yards, but receiver Keon Coleman stepped up and had six catches for 63 yards after D.J. Moore went down with a shoulder injury.

It's not a question that the Lions' defense is suspect. Frank Reich and the rest of the offensive staff need to find ways to get the ball into Wilson's hands as much as possible. This is the perfect game for him to dominate, and New York needs to make it a priority to get him at least 10 targets.

Through the first two games, nearly every time the ball has been thrown in his direction, something good has happened. They need to make more of an effort to get him going, and it starts this weekend against Detroit.
