Garrett Wilson trade proposal is so bad Jets fans can’t stop laughing

Can we stop talking about this now?

The New York Jets are not going to trade Garrett Wilson. That's a concept that shouldn't bear repeating at this stage after the team signed him to a historic four-year, $130 million extension just a few months ago.

Wilson’s contract extension hasn’t even kicked in yet, and the former Ohio State star is still on pace for career-best numbers despite missing time with a knee injury. By all accounts, Wilson remains happy in New York, even amid the team’s ongoing struggles.

That hasn’t stopped the Cleveland media — yes, Cleveland of all places — from running wild with reckless, nonsensical rumors all week about the possibility of Wilson being traded to the Browns. For whatever reason, Browns fans have convinced themselves that Wilson is on the trade block and could be on his way to Cleveland.

Fans have floated a wide array of ridiculous and absurd trade proposals involving Wilson, but one recent suggestion from Ohio-based sportsbook betJACK might be the most hilarious yet.

Latest Garrett Wilson trade proposal might be the most embarrassing yet

This mock trade would see the Jets send Wilson to the Browns in exchange for a 2026 first-round pick (via Jacksonville) and rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Yes, you read that correctly.

Now, whatever you thought of Sanders as a prospect or whatever you might think of him now as an NFL player, that really isn't the point here. Trading Wilson away for what would likely be a mid-to-late first-round pick and a fifth-round rookie QB who hasn’t even played an NFL snap yet wouldn’t just be baffling — it would be downright laughable.

There are extremely few untouchable players on the Jets' roster, which shouldn't come as a surprise for an 0-7 team that is expected to part ways with a number of players over the next couple of weeks. Wilson is undoubtedly one of those untouchable players.

Wilson just turned 25 this past July and is widely regarded as one of the top-10 players at his position. With the Jets likely to add a quarterback early in next year’s draft, trading away arguably his best — and possibly only reliable — skill player would be a glaring example of mismanagement.

That's not even considering the financial ramifications. Again. Wilson’s extension hasn’t even kicked in, meaning a trade would saddle the Jets with nearly $50 million in dead cap. Why would the organization even entertain moving him under those circumstances, especially for a package like this?

Wilson has made it clear that he wants to remain in New York for the foreseeable future. The Jets made it clear with the historic extension they handed him this summer that the feeling is mutual.

Browns fans and talk radio “analysts” can keep dreaming of this fantasy scenario, even if it defies all logic and reason. It doesn’t change the facts: the Jets aren’t trading Garrett Wilson.
