Door closes on Aaron Glenn's last pathway to stay on as Jets head coach

There's likely no turning back now.

The New York Jets are almost certainly going to be looking for a new head coach this offseason. Aaron Glenn's time as the head honcho of this franchise has been nothing short of disastrous, and never has that been so clear as over the course of the last few weeks.

It was bad enough that the Jets got off to a 1-3 start, losing a totally winnable game against the Green Bay Packers in Week 2, and essentially not showing up to play in Week 4 against the Chicago Bears, but then, the last two weeks happened.

Against an inferior opponent (at least on paper), the Miami Dolphins marched into the Jets' own stadium and did whatever they wanted to do to them offensively. Glenn's own self-proclaimed "superpower" was nowhere to be seen against the likes of Malik Willis and Greg Dulcich.

Then, this past weekend, a blown multi-possession lead at the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders all but sealed Glenn's already dire fate. Even those who thought he still had a path to redemption think it's all but closed now.

Rich Cimini says Aaron Glenn is all but done as New York Jets HC

ESPN's Rich Cimini, who is one of the most plugged-in reporters on the Jets beat, changed his tune this week about Glenn's future.

Last week, Cimini said he saw a path for Glenn to retain his job with 10 games remaining on the schedule. After the loss to the Raiders, we've hit a point of no return.

"I hate to say it right now... I don't see that path anymore. I don't, and I hate to say it, I thought if they could have got this game against the Raiders-- not to say they would've went out and beat the Chiefs... it would've helped their confidence... it could've given them a chance to get to six or seven wins, which I think probably would've been enough [for Glenn to keep his job]."

To Cimini's point, Glenn's pathway to staying on as head coach of the Jets lies in the schedule, and the way the team has been playing over the last month, it's hard to see them picking up more than two wins against their remaining opponents.

Of their remaining nine games, they play six opponents with winning records, including the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills (twice), Denver Broncos, New England Patriots, and Minnesota Vikings. That's not even including the Dolphins, whom they already lost to at home this year.

This first half of the 2026 schedule was Glenn's chance to stack some "easy" wins. If they were 4-4 right now, there would likely be a good chunk of the fanbase okay with seeing him back for another season.

Now, that hope is all gone.
