Top 10 Aaron Glenn replacements after indefensible Jets' loss to Dolphins

That time of the year already, huh?

New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has fallen to 2-5 in the 2026 season and 5-19 in his career after losing at home to a previously winless Miami Dolphins team. This may be the nail in the coffin for a coaching tenure that is likely not going to last much longer.

The Jets find themselves in a position to possibly attract a quality candidate, given their offensive infrastructure, cap space, and treasure trove of picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. They could land a decent leading man if those assets are appealing.

If the Jets fire Glenn, any one of these 10 coaches could be a worthwhile replacement as this team eyes a 16th straight season without making the playoffs.

10 Aaron Glenn replacements after New York Jets' loss to Dolphins

10. Nick Caley, OC, Houston Texans

Caley, who has experience under both Bill Belichick and Sean McVay, has rehabilitated his stock within the league as CJ Stroud gets back on the right track. Caley may get some buzz if the Texans can bounce back and make a playoff run despite a suspect offensive line.

9. Drew Petzing, OC, Detroit Lions

Another Lions coordinator? Despite the team's rocky start, Petzing has the offense cooking in a way that is almost on par with what Ben Johnson was grinding together. Petzing may need to nail his DC hire, but he has shown to be a solid play-caller, and this Jets offense needs that in the worst way.

8. Sean McDermott, former HC, Buffalo Bills

McDermott not only has helped a previously laughable Bills team become a postseason fixture, but his handling of Josh Allen suggests he can put together solid staffs on both sides of the ball. McDermott might get his pick of options across the league, and the Jets may not be as attractive.

7. Grant Udiniski, OC, Jacksonville Jaguars

Udinski is a 31-year-old coach who has an alarmingly small NFL resume, yet has spent years studying at the foot of Liam Coen. The Jets may need to try an outside-the-box hire after years of failing, and Udinski would certainly be in line with that directive.

6. Brian Flores, DC, Minnesota Vikings

Flores may be the only defensive coach who would be acceptable to hire after failing with Saleh and Glenn. With a defense that is absolutely suffocating everyone the Vikings come into contact with, Flores bringing some Kevin O'Connell offensive staff members might be the secret sauce this team needs.

5. Kliff Kingsbury, AHC, Los Angeles Rams

Kingsbury has experience working under Sean McVay, would give this team a high offensive floor, and has past head-coaching experience. Kingsbury has put in the work needed to get a second chance in the NFL, and the Jets might be desperate enough to give him that chance.

4. Marcus Freeman, HC, Notre Dame

Freeman seems like the one coach who could make the jump from college to the pros, and the possibility of reuniting with his Irish quarterback in CJ Carr might be fairly interesting for him. Freeman will need to show he can win when at a talent disadvantage, which has rarely happened during his 49-13 stint in South Bend.

3. Mike Tomlin, former HC, Pittsburgh Steelers

Tomlin could land this job if he walks into Woody Johnson's office and slams his Super Bowl ring down on the table. Tomlin would likely give the Jets a high floor, which is exactly what this team has been chasing for years.

2. Declan Doyle, OC, Baltimore Ravens

Doyle's last three seasons have been spent under Sean Payton, Ben Johnson, and Jesse Minter, with his first play-calling season appearing to be a fairly impressive showing in Baltimore despite some growing pains. Doyle would be an exceedingly young hire, but the Jets might be willing to take the plunge.

1. Nick Sirianni, HC, Philadelphia Eagles

Sirianni has a very recent Super Bowl ring in his trophy case, and he was one Patrick Mahomes flow state away from getting two with Jalen Hurts. Sirianni, who has made the playoffs every year in Philly, may also bring defensive coordinator Vic Fangio to town. That package deal could be too much to pass up.
