It's been a tumultuous week for the NY Jets following the firing of now-former head coach Robert Saleh on Tuesday, but amidst all the turnover and turmoil, the Jets remain very interested in a Davante Adams trade.
Saleh's premature departure reportedly does not alter the Jets' plans to acquire Adams in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders. The coaching change may have slowed Adams' market and delayed a trade until next week, but it hasn't changed the desired outcome.
The Jets are still very interested in reuniting Adams with Aaron Rodgers in Florham Park, but they're not alone. A host of other teams have checked in on Adams' market, and some of those teams are still possible landing spots.
The Athletic's Tashan Reed revealed the four known finalists for an Adams trade on Wednesday. Reed named the Jets, New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Buffalo Bills as the four remaining teams that could still land Adams in a trade.
Notably, Reed indicated that the Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Ravens, and Washington Commanders are all no longer in on Adams' market. All four teams reportedly inquired about a trade, but it doesn't seem like any of them will ultimately make the deal.
The NY Jets are a finalist to trade for Davante Adams
It should come as no surprise that the Jets are one of the four finalists to trade for Adams, especially since, by all accounts, they're still seen as the most likely landing spot for the six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver.
Reports suggest other teams like the Saints have been more aggressive in trade talks, but the Jets remain Adams' preferred destination. That's largely due to the presence of Rodgers, a quarterback he has plenty of history playing alongside.
Rumors indicated an Adams trade could have been reached as soon as earlier this week, but Saleh's firing combined with Derek Carr's injury appears to have slowed his market. It seems more likely that the remaining interested teams will reconvene after this weekend's games.
The Jets are in a good place and seem confident they will be able to land Adams, but it's far from a guarantee at this stage. Adams has also expressed significant interest in reuniting with Carr in New Orleans, and the Steelers and Bills each make compelling offers.
The Jets may be the favorites, but they're not alone in this race. There are four known finalists, and each has a chance to ultimately end up with Adams on their roster. This will be a very interesting situation to watch unfold over the coming days.
