Davante Adams rumors heat up as NY Jets trade seems inevitable
By Justin Fried
The NY Jets have been flirting with the idea of a Davante Adams trade ever since the team acquired Aaron Rodgers in the 2023 offseason. There have been times when an Adams trade almost felt inevitable, but for one reason or another, talks always fell through.
But as we sit here a little over a month away from the trade deadline on Nov. 3, the possibility of Adams being traded to the Jets has never seemed more likely.
Adams was a late scratch from the Las Vegas Raiders' Week 4 game against the Cleveland Browns after apparently injuring his hamsrting in practice on Thursday. This came one week after Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce called out select players on his roster for making "business decisions."
There was immediate speculation that Adams was one of the players Pierce was referring to, and his unexpected absence in Week 4 only further fueled those rumors. But the latest development surrounding Adams and the Raiders really feels like the end is approaching.
Davante Adams might've played his last Raiders game as NY Jets trade rumors heat up
Pierce was caught 'liking' a post on Instagram about a report that Adams may have played his final game with the Raiders. While Pierve eventually removed his 'like,' that wasn't before it gained widespread attention.
Surely this was a mistake, though. Surely Pierce has spoken with Adams about it to put his mind at ease and clear up any miscommunication. Except that's now what has happened, at least according to Adams.
Adams made an appearance on Up & Adams on Tuesday and revealed that he has not spoken to Pierce about the incident since it happened. In fact, Adams said that he "hasn't talked to [Pierce]" at all.
Raiders insider Vincent Bonsignore confirmed on Tuesday that the Raiders have begun reaching out to teams to gauge interest in the six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver. This is a notable development as the Raiders have been hesitant to engage in trade talks to this point.
It appears the situation in Las Vegas has reached a boiling point, which is excellent news for a Jets team that has long been seen as the most likely landing spot for Adams in the event of a trade.
Adams' history with Aaron Rodgers dating back to their years together in Green Bay combined with the Jets' desire to improve their skill position group make this a potential match made in heaven.
A Davante Adams trade is no longer a pipedream for the Jets — it's quickly becoming a reality. If Adams has indeed played his final snap for the Raiders, he could be on his way to Florham Park sooner rather than later.
