NFL teams believe NY Jets will inevitably trade for Davante Adams (REPORT)
By Justin Fried
A NY Jets-Davante Adams trade has felt inevitable for quite some time now, especially with trade rumors heating up over the last 48 hours. That belief isn't just shared by Jets fans, either.
The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported on Wednesday that the consensus belief around the NFL appears to be that the Jets will ultimately be the team to trade for Adams.
A number of teams have been connected to Adams trade rumors since the All-Pro wide receiver requested out of Las Vegas earlier this week. Among those discussed have been the New Orleans Saints, Washington Commanders, Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, and others.
However, one team continues to stand out amongst the rest as the odds-on favorite to trade for Adams. That team just so happens to have Adams' longtime quarterback, Aaron Rodgers.
The possibility of an Adams-Rodgers reunion in Florham Park has never felt more likely. Everyone from fans to analysts to league executives believes this will get done.
Everyone thinks the NY Jets will trade for Davante Adams
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday that the Jets and Saints are the two preferred destinations for Adams in a trade. Adams doesn't have a no-trade clause, but he has some leverage in negotiations.
The six-time Pro Bowler has a $44 million cap hit in 2025 and 2026, but he has no guaranteed money remaining on his deal. That means whatever team that trades for Adams will need to work out a new contract. This allows Adams to have some say in where he ends up.
The Jets are the obvious landing spot for Adams given the Rodgers connection. The team has checked in on Adams' market on multiple occasions since acquiring Rodgers, first before the trade deadline last year and again this past offseason.
Each time the Jets have been met with hesitancy from the Raiders. That no longer appears to be the case. Las Vegas is calling teams to gauge interest in their star receiver, with reports suggesting Adams wants out as soon as possible.
The 31-year-old is currently nursing a hamstring injury that caused him to miss his team's Week 4 game, but it wouldn't be a surprise to anyone if said injury magically healed itself upon Adams' departure.
Whatever the case, it seems likely that Adams has played his final snap for the Raiders. There are quite a few teams interested in acquiring a player who is still one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, but the Jets are the clear-cut frontrunners.
It may not quite be inevitable, but the consensus around the NFL world is that Adams will land in Florham Park sooner rather than later.
