Heading into the 2026 offseason, the first major question facing the New York Jets was the future of running back Breece Hall.
An impending free agent, the Jets and Hall's representatives were unable to come to terms on a long-term extension, forcing general manager Darren Mougey to utilize the franchise tag on their starting tailback.
From then on, Mougey promised Hall and the Jets fanbase that while long-term contract talks would continue, they wouldn't pick them back up until after the draft.
The Jets' general manager made good on his promise, coming to terms with Hall on a three-year, $45.75 million contract extension just over a week after the 2026 NFL Draft, and fans should feel good about how his general manager handles contract talks with star players.
Darren Mougey's track record of extending star Jets continues
Monday evening, the Jets made the Hall signing official, with the running back making his way to Florham Park, New Jersey, to put his name on the dotted line.

It was certainly an exciting and emotional day for Hall, finally landing the long-term security that every NFL player dreams of.
But it's exciting for Jets fans as well, considering Mougey is doing what he can to acquire and keep talent in New York. He thanked all the involved parties for their cooperation and assistance.
"We're excited to get this deal done with Breece. His impact on the field speaks for itself, and we're excited to have him be a part of our future...I'd like to also thank Nicole Lynn of Klutch Sports for her professionalism throughout this process, as well as our football administration staff, led by Nick Sabella, for their outstanding work in ensuring Breece remains a part of our organization."Darren Mougey
The Jets general manager has shown that he's willing to talk numbers with players who deserve it, as evidenced by the deals he got done with Hall and both Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner last summer.
Before Mougey was even the general manager for a pre-season game, he handed Wilson and Gardner two record-setting extensions, something that fans weren't used to, dating back to the Joe Douglas era.
Hopefully, Mougey continues handing out extensions to Jets that deserve it this summer, including guard Joe Tippmann, who is entering the final year of his rookie deal.
