Breece Hall’s latest CBS Sports snub isn't as outrageous as it seems

For once, we can’t get mad.

For whatever reason, CBS Sports has been especially hard on the New York Jets throughout the offseason.

Whether it was snubbing Garrett Wilson from a top-100 players list or pushing the idea that the fifth-year wideout could demand a trade, they’ve definitely left quite an impression. But with training camp less than a month away, perhaps the times are changing.

Tyler Sullivan ranked the top 25 players who will be 25 or younger when the season starts on Sept. 9. As a result, Wilson didn’t qualify because he turns 26 later this month, so we’ll give Sullivan a pass there.

Sullivan also omitted running back Breece Hall, though that’s nowhere near as egregious as Pete Prisco putting 13 receivers above Wilson.

For once, CBS Sports didn’t snub Breece Hall or any Jets players

Sullivan included two running backs: Miami’s De'Von Achane (No. 21) and Atlanta's Bijan Robinson, who earned the top spot.

(I personally would have put Puka Nacua or Penei Sewell, who finished No. 2 and 3, atop the list, partly because their teams have at least reached the postseason.)

When you read the rankings, you’re reminded of how many elite — or, at the very least, above-average — young players exist. Hall is a solid running back fresh off his first 1,000-yard season, and the Giants rewarded him with an extension earlier this year.

That said, Hall is nowhere close to cracking a list like this. Even if you’re among those who believe the NFL world is overrating Achane, he absolutely has a better case than Hall.

Achane has averaged 1,675 yards from scrimmage over his first three seasons, and he began his career as the Dolphins' No. 2 running back behind Raheem Mostert.

And to be clear, this is nothing against Hall, nor is The Jet Press going against the grain and peddling pro-Achane propaganda. But speaking objectively, who would you rather have in your backfield? Exactly.

As for other Jets players who could have made the list, Hall was really the only candidate. Perhaps there’s an argument to be made for Olu Fashanu, especially after an ankle injury limited Chargers standout right tackle Joe Alt (No. 24) to six games last year.

Armand Membou only has one year under his belt, and rookies were ineligible. We’ll see whether David Bailey, D’Angelo Ponds, or any of the Jets’ other first-year players can crack Sullivan’s 2027 list.
