3 free agents NY Jets will regret not signing for the 2025 season

Surely the Jets made the right decisions to not sign these players, right? Well...

The New York Jets are starting from the near the bottom again with a new regime, but the important thing to remember is that they aren’t dealing with any Aaron Rodgers drama. New general manager Darren Mougey and new head coach Aaron Glenn are being tasked to hit a major reset button on the Jets and work some magic to bring some positives vibes to the organizations.

The Jets have made some underrated signings this free agency frenzy and they even managed to bring back linebacker Jamien Sherwood who is a big fan-favorite and is one of the most underrated players in the game. They are also looking to start fresh at quarterback with Justin Fields, but it’s only a two-year deal so it isn’t a huge commitment.

New York also brought in veterans like WR Tyler Johnson, DT Derrick Nnadi, WR Josh Reynolds, and LB Jamin Davis. Mougey’s first free agency go-around as the general manager hasn’t been a terrible one. The new regime has to be taken seriously because of two reasons; They moved on from Aaron Rodgers and we don’t know how this regime will be which can be scary for other teams.

Now surely, the Jets may not have been a big destination place for free agents because of the current status that the franchise is in. Some players may not be interested in a rebuild, but the Jets should have done more work in their pursuit of three specific free agents that would have easily improved the Jets roster for 2025.

3 free agents Jets will regret not signing for the 2025 season

WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine

The Jets will see wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine twice a year this season because he signed with the Miami Dolphins after having his best year as a pro with the Tennessee Titans. Even though the Jets signed Tyler Johnson who is a bigger receiver, Westbrook-Ikhine is more of a threat down the field that would have been a great option for Fields in the passing game.

Westbrook-Ikhine is coming off a nine touchdown season performance in a Titans offense that was a mess. Now he’ll be catching passes from Tua Tagovailoa and also playing alongside Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

CB Carlton Davis

Carlton Davis has been a solid cornerback throughout his career, but he has yet to play a full season in his entire career. However, he had a great year last season in Detroit where he only allowed a 55.3% completion rate when the ball was thrown his way and gave up just two touchdowns, which is the lowest amount in his career.

Davis is coming to the AFC East, but he was paid big time by the New England Patriots on a three-year, $60 million deal. He and Christian Gonzalez should be a solid lockdown duo for years to come and the Jets will have to worry about them when they face off against the Patriots.

WR Joshua Palmer

It’s no secret the Jets could use a little bit of an upgrade at wide receiver. Outside of Garrett Wilson, there isn’t another true threat for Fields outside the numbers. This is where the Jets could have signed someone like Joshua Palmer to compliment Wilson. Instead, Palmer is heading to the Buffalo Bills to catch passes from Josh Allen.

Palmer was part of an offense that ran the ball heavily last year in Los Angeles, but he has shown that he can separate well and be a solid possession receiver. Since the Jets haven’t seriously addressed the wide receiver position in free agency, let’s hope that they do it in the draft later this month.
