Updated 2025 NFL Draft order leaves NY Jets in a tricky position
By Justin Fried
Death, taxes, and NY Jets fans checking the NFL Draft order in December — the three constants of life. Despite entering the 2024 season with a returning Aaron Rodgers and legitimate Super Bowl aspirations, the Jets find themselves at 3-9 with a strong possibility to land a top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
It's a familiar position for a franchise that has spent the better part of the last decade-plus inhabiting the NFL's basement. The Jets haven't picked worse than 15th since the 2016 draft and have been slated to select in the top 10 a total of 11 times since 2006.
The 2025 NFL Draft is trending to be no different, as the Jets are currently scheduled to pick in the top 10 again if the season were to end today. Unfortunately, despite the team's poor record, there is no guarantee the Jets end up with a desired draft spot.
Eight teams in the NFL currently have three or fewer wins, the Jets included. Nearly half the entire AFC has won four or fewer games. The Jets are in a dogfight for one of the top picks in this year's draft.
Where do the NY Jets pick in the 2025 NFL Draft?
If the season were to end today following the Week 13 slate of games, the Jets would hold the sixth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. They're currently in a four-way tie with three other 3-9 teams with strength of schedule serving as the tiebreaker.
The Jacksonville Jaguars, Las Vegas Raiders, and New York Giants are all tied at 2-10, the New England Patriots hold the fourth pick with a 3-10 record, and the Carolina Panthers, Jets, Tennessee Titans, and Cleveland Browns all sit at 3-9.
The good news for the Jets is that they will have a golden opportunity to continue climbing these rankings. Not only do the Jaguars play the Jets in Week 15 but they also still have two games against the Titans and another against the Raiders on tap.
That will lower their strength of schedule, sure, but it also nearly guarantees some wins for the teams currently picking ahead of the Jets. The Jets just have to do their part and continue to lose.
The Jets are losers of nine of their last 10 games after a hot 2-1 start to the 2024 season. They have matchups remaining against the Jaguars, Los Angeles Rams, Buffalo Bills, and Miami Dolphins (twice). There are some prime opportunities for losses in that schedule.
The Jets will likely be in the market for a new quarterback this offseason, with the likes of Miami's Cam Ward and Colorado's Shedeur Sanders sitting atop most draft boards. They will almost definitely need a top-five pick if they want to land either of them.
Tank supporters will be keeping a close eye on the 2025 NFL Draft order as we draw closer to the end of the regular season. The Jets have an opportunity to finish with a top pick if they maintain their losing ways.
