2025 NFL Draft order gives NY Jets every chance to replace Aaron Rodgers
By Justin Fried
The NY Jets' season is, for all intents and purposes, over following the team's 25-22 loss to the New England Patriots in Week 8. The Aaron Rodgers experiment has been a colossal failure, as the Jets sit at 2-6 through eight weeks in a supposed Super Bowl-or-bust season.
The team's latest loss to the Patriots is a new low for an organization that had aspirations of breaking their league-worst 13-year playoff drought in 2024. Instead, the season is essentially over before we've even reached November.
What do you even do at this point? Where do the Jets go from here? Unfortunately, Jets fans know this story far too well. It's time to shift focus to the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.
The Jets' five-game losing streak has positioned them as one of the worst teams in the NFL, as just two teams currently have a worse record, the Carolina Panthers and Tennessee Titans. The Jets could end up with a top-five pick in next year's draft.
Where do the NY Jets pick in the 2025 NFL Draft?
If the season were to end today, the Jets would have the fourth pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The New England Patriots are the only 2-6 team ahead of them as, despite their win on Sunday, they still have the tiebreaker in strength of schedule.
The Jets do have the tiebreaker over the other four 2-6 teams, though, because they haven't played a particularly challenging schedule to this point. Three of their eight games have come against teams with a combined record of 3-12.
The Jets might still find a way to win some meaningless games late in the season and tank their draft position, much like they did last year, but as it stands now, the Jets have positioned themselves well to potentially target Rodgers' replacement.
It seems unlikely that Rodgers will be back with the Jets in 2025 at this stage, especially considering that the entire regime is likely to be fired. That means the Jets will once again be looking for a new quarterback.
The Jets are likely keeping an eye on the likes of Colorado's Shadeur Sanders, Miami's Cam Ward, Georgia's Carson Beck, Alabama's Jalen Milroe, Texas's Quinn Ewers, and LSU's Garrett Nussmeier as we draw closer to the end of the season.
There's a real chance one of those players will be drafted by the Jets come next April. It likely won't be Joe Douglas making the pick, but the Jets should be eyeing a quarterback. If the Jets continue to lose games in this fashion, they might just have their pick of the litter.
It's not even November, but it's already draft season for the New York Jets. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
