The New York Jets have a decision to make at the quarterback position entering Week 8. Following the team's benching of Justin Fields this past Sunday, most have assumed that head coach Aaron Glenn will turn to Tyrod Taylor ahead of this week's game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

But a recent injury update regarding Taylor could threaten to throw a wrench into those plans.

Glenn spoke to reporters on Wednesday and revealed that Taylor is day-to-day with a knee injury. He didn't provide any further insight on his availability for this weekend and even stopped short of revealing who the team's starter would be.

The first-year head coach revealed that the Jets already know who will start at quarterback this weekend but are choosing not to announce it publicly, citing “a competitive advantage." Taylor remains the favorite to start despite his injury.

While Glenn didn't reveal the severity of Taylor's injury, it's fair to say that he didn't sound very concerned about his status for this week. Glenn insisted that Taylor's knee injury isn't new and that it's something he's been dealing with since the summer when he underwent a minor procedure.

Taylor was spotted on the field for the early portion of practice on Wednesday, which is a strong indication that he should be available to start on Sunday. The initial injury report will reveal more, but as of right now, it doesn't sound like there's any real reason to be concerned about his current status.

That’s probably good news for a Jets team that just watched Taylor’s competition, Fields, get publicly eviscerated by owner Woody Johnson on Tuesday. Johnson basically blamed Fields for all of his team's struggles this season in what was essentially a public humiliation ritual.

It would certainly be awkward if the Jets turned back to Fields this week after Johnson's comments. It also wouldn't be ideal for the team, given the fact that Fields is playing some of the worst football of his career right now.

A quarterback change is necessary for the Jets, and while a banged-up Taylor shouldn't be expected to be the savior, the product on the field should look at least marginally better.

Undrafted practice squad rookie Brady Cook is the only other quarterback under contract with the team. Cook was previously elevated to serve as Taylor's backup in Week 3 after Fields suffered a concussion.

Jets fans will keep an eye on Taylor's status as the week progresses, but as of now, it doesn't seem like there's any reason to expect him to miss time. Taylor should be the starting QB this Sunday.
