NY Jets fans are fully over the Justin Fields experiment, so much so that they were begging on their hands and knees for veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor to come in and relieve him. Despite Glenn's stubbornness when it comes to making a change, Week 7's duel against the Carolina Panthers was enough to force a change.

After the sixth consecutive game in which the Jets were unable to score 10 points in the first half, Glenn finally decided to pull the ripcord and put Taylor in. Even if this doesn't save the result against the Panthers, Glenn appears to have finally given in to the same people he believed were being ridiculous in asking for a new quarterback just a week ago.

The Jets may be playing for the future, but Glenn needs to show that he can string some wins together. With the defense playing well and frustration boiling over, New York finally decided that they run out of time trying to make Fields work as a starting quarterback.

NY Jets finally bench QB Justin Fields for Tyrod Taylor

Fields threw for just 46 yards in the first half against the Panthers, but that is still more than he managed in entire games against Buffalo and Denver. With no Garrett Wilson in this game, an already anemic offense looked non-functional once again.

Despite playing three of the league's worst defenses in Miami, Dallas, and Carolina in consecutive weeks, Fields and the Jets' offense didn't get anything going until garbage time. Fields is very clearly in his head, and the benching might do him a bit of good as well.

Taylor played well enough to give the Jets a fighting chance against a far superior opponent in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, even though a costly pick-six ended up being what decided this game in favor of the NFC South kings. This offense may be bad, but it should at least look functional.

Fields was a reasonable gamble from this front office, but it appears to have crashed and burned in the worst possible way. Time will tell if Taylor can operate this offense in a way that can get some wins on the board for this team.
