The Jet Press Podcast: Jets training camp stock report + Kenyon Sadiq injury update

In the latest episode of The Jet Press Podcast, Justin Fried and Mike Luciano discuss the latest from New York Jets training camp, including injuries, standouts, disappointments, and more. Who are the biggest risers and fallers at training camp so far?

Justin and Mike opened with the quarterbacks, where the early returns have been encouraging. Geno Smith already looks more comfortable in the offense than Justin Fields did at this point last summer, and he has consistently attacked all three levels of the field.

Rookie Cade Klubnik has mixed in a few mistakes, but he has largely looked like an NFL quarterback. That's certainly a promising start for a Day 3 pick competing for the backup job.

Elsewhere, rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq suffered a setback in his recovery from hernia surgery and is expected to miss “a little bit” of time, according to Aaron Glenn. Justin and Mike discussed how much the absence could affect his rookie season and when the Jets might realistically expect him back.

They also broke down the injuries to T’Vondre Sweat, Joseph Ossai and D’Angelo Ponds. Ossai’s situation does not seem especially concerning, but Sweat and Ponds are losing valuable summer reps.

Sweat’s absence also raises questions because of the conditioning concerns that followed coming over from Tennessee, while Ponds could return to find his expected starting role less secure.

Darrell Jackson Jr. has taken advantage of the increased reps in Sweat’s absence. The fourth-round rookie has been one of the standouts of camp, which has led to Justin and Mike adjusting their expectations for his first season.

Second-year cornerback Azareye’h Thomas has also impressed. Nahshon Wright entered camp as the perceived favorite to start opposite Brandon Stephens, but Thomas may have already moved ahead of him.

The episode also covers Armand Membou’s dominant summer (best player on the roster?) and Bleacher Report’s wild decision to rank Braelon Allen as the NFL’s 29th-best running back. Justin and Mike broke down that ranking and several other hilarious choices from the list.
