Surprising Breece Hall injury update has massive fantasy implications
By Justin Fried
As the NY Jets prepare to finish out the final four games of what has been arguably the most disappointing season in franchise history, fantasy owners are preparing for the start of their playoff season. One Jets player many are keeping an eye on is running back Breece Hall.
Hall has been battling a knee injury since the team's Week 11 loss to the Indianapolis Colts and was forced to sit out this past Sunday. The word entering the week was that Hall was likely set to miss at least another week — if not more — but the Jets and fantasy managers were treated to a surprising piece of good news on Friday.
After failing to practice on either Tuesday or Wednesday, Hall returned in a full capacity on Friday and is seemingly in line to play this Sunday when the Jets take on the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich expressed pessimism when speaking to reporters earlier in the week, insisting that Hall was still "struggling" with his knee injury. Two days later, that pessimism has evaporated. Hall looks like he should be good to go.
Breece Hall injury update is best-case scenario for NY Jets and fantasy managers
The Jets have officially listed Hall as questionable for Week 15 on their final injury report. The team has not confirmed his status for Sunday's game, but all signs point to him playing this weekend.
Hall was sidelined for the team's Week 14 game against the Miami Dolphins, allowing rookies Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis to shoulder the load. Allen and Davis performed well in Hall's absence, but there's no replacing the Jets' star running back.
Hall fantasy managers should be wary, however. ESPN's Rich Cimini speculated that Hall could be given a reduced workload in his first game back. Expect Allen and Davis to both receive their share of snaps.
Some have even questioned the Jets' decision to play Hall at all given the current state of the organization. At 3-10, the Jets have already been mathematically eliminated from postseason contention for a 14th consecutive season.
Hall wants to be on the field for his teammates, but it's worth wondering why the Jets are allowing him back on the field at this stage. It's an injury to the same knee he suffered a torn ACL in two years ago — one would think the Jets would be as cautious as possible.
Hall fantasy owners can rejoice but anticipated a reduced workload for their star running back. The Jets might not be bound for the playoffs, but certain fantasy managers relying on Hall are sure happy he's back for a playoff push of their own.
