Ridiculous trade proposal sees NY Jets send Garrett Wilson to division rival

Don't listen to the rumors.

The NY Jets are not going to trade Garrett Wilson. Despite continuous rumors detailing Wilson's frustrations in New York, it wouldn't make any sense for the Jets to trade their star wide receiver, even if he were to request a move.

That hasn't stopped analysts from putting together mock drafts, however. One such scenario proposed by The Athletic's Chad Graff would see the Jets consider a trade offer from their hated AFC East rivals, the New England Patriots.

New England's offer for the highly coveted young receiver in this scenario would include their 2026 first-round pick and second-year quarterback Joe Milton. On the surface, the deal may appear tempting, but it simply should, and likely will, never materialize.

Don't expect the NY Jets to trade Garrett Wilson

Wilson is a rare talent. The former Ohio State standout has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first three seasons, and his reception total has steadily grown, breaking 100 for the first time this year.

At age 24, he’s already established himself as one of the better wide receivers in the NFL. Given that the Jets still have him under control for at least the next two seasons (assuming his fifth-year option is picked up), it would be unwise to give up on him this early in his career.

The potential rewards don't justify the risk. While Milton is a supremely talented quarterback, his limited playing time makes evaluation difficult, and he was just drafted in the sixth round less than a year ago.

If the Jets were to accept this trade, it would only make sense if it included New England's current fourth-overall pick. At least then the Jets could potentially target a high-end quarterback prospect.

Even still, does anyone really think that Cam Ward, Shadeur Sanders, or any other QB option in the 2025 draft justifies this type of trade? I certainly don't.

Whoever lands the starting quarterback job for the Jets will greatly benefit from having Garrett Wilson running routes. Don't expect new general manager Darren Mougey to rush into a move involving Wilson just yet.

There may come a time when the Jets' front office must have frank discussions about Wilson's future, especially if the team remains mired in irrelevancy or if they can't align on compensation.

But those honest conversations do not need to happen yet. The superstar receiver is entering his prime, revitalized by the departure of Aaron Rodgers whom he struggled to connect with.

This isn't the time to make rash decisions. Don't expect Mougey and the Jets to trade Wilson anytime soon, especially not to their most hated division rival.
