NY Jets have dream prospect fall into their laps in PFF's latest mock draft

The NY Jets might be just a bit too far out of striking distance for top quarterback prospects Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders, but both Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey need to stay prepared just in case one of them takes a tumble.

Of the two, Ward seems to be the least likely to slip to No. 7 overall. However, the pre-draft process is still very much a work in progress, and there could be some crazy falls that inadvertently change the fate of franchises across the league.

Pro Football Focus put forth a scenario that could be such a dream for the Jets that it almost seems too good to be true. In their most recent mock draft, Ward, regarded by many as the best quarterback in the class, was able to slide to the Jets' pick at No. 7 overall.

Ward coming to the Jets would be one impressive way for Glenn and Mougey to start their tenures, but getting him without having to make a trade-up could be the type of good fortune that helps the Jets finally break their 14-season playoff drought fairly soon.

PFF Mock Draft has NY Jets selecting Miami QB Cam Ward at No. 7

Ward will need to make it past three teams in the Titans, Browns, and Giants who conceivably could use their top pick to find a new franchise quarterback. The Las Vegas Raiders have been linked to veterans in free agency, but they can't be discounted as a potential landing spot for him.

Ward is a five-year starter who threw 158 touchdown passes between Incarnate Word, Washington State, and Miami. With a ballistic arm, tremendous playmaking out of structure, and ruthless efficiency from the pocket, Ward has the highest ceiling of any quarterback prospect in this class.

Ward struggles with accuracy on deep passes now and again, and he can be a bit reckless with the ball due to his cavalier decision-making, but the Jets would happily sign up for a chance to fix those traits if they are able to get their hands on someone who could be an immediate pro starter.

The Jets have been getting smacked with the blunt end of the bad luck stick for the last few years, and it's about time they get a lucky bounce. Ward has a better shot at fixing this team's perpetual quarterback woes than any of the other youngsters in the mix.
