NY Jets predicted to land Shedeur Sanders in shocking NFL Draft slide

Imagine if this happened...

The NY Jets have a decision to make on the future of Aaron Rodgers entering the 2025 offseason. If the team opts to move on — or even if they don't — they might look to the 2025 NFL Draft in search of his replacement.

Unfortunately, with a weak quarterback class and the No. 7 overall pick, most don't expect the Jets to be in a position to draft a high-profile QB prospect. The draft is notoriously unpredictable, however. What if one of the top quarterbacks falls?

That was exactly the scenario proposed by NFL.com's Eric Edholm in a recent 2025 NFL mock draft. Edholm had Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders falling to the Jets at pick No. 7 overall.

Edholm's mock was certainly unique. The first quarterback didn't come off the board until the New York Giants at No. 3. Penn State tight end Tyler Warren and Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty were both selected in the top six.

It's difficult to envision a scenario in which all of that happens, but NFL fans have been taught over the years to never say never when it comes to the draft.

Could the NY Jets somehow land Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 NFL Draft?

Sanders established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in college football over the last two years since following his father Deion to Colorado in 2023.

He received the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, given to the nation's top upperclassman quarterback, this season and was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year. Sanders and Colorado secured the program's first top-25 finish to end a year since 2016.

The soon-to-be 23-year-old is widely seen as a top-two quarterback prospect in what is considered a weak draft class. Most expect Sanders and Miami's Cam Ward to come off the board within the first three picks, with the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, and Giants all eyeing quarterback help.

Edholm's mock is one of the first that has two of those teams, in this case, the Titans and Browns, passing on a quarterback. Tennessee selected Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter while Cleveland added Sanders' Colorado teammate, Travis Hunter, in this scenario.

The Jets could very well be in the market for a quarterback this offseason if the team decides to move on from Rodgers. New head coach Aaron Glenn was noncommittal on Rodgers' future when speaking to reporters last week, and Rodgers has made it clear that he doesn't have any concrete plans either.

Even if Rodgers does stick around for another year, the four-time MVP will turn 42 years old before the end of next season. He's hardly a long-term solution. Perhaps Glenn and new general manager Darren Mougey take a chance on Sanders as their developmental quarterback of the future.

It's unlikely the Jets are even in a position to land Sanders, but we've seen more improbable draft-day developments in recent years. There's a scenario in which Sanders is playing football in East Rutherford next season but not as a member of the New York Giants.
