For better or for worse, the NY Jets always find themselves in the news cycle. Through gaffs and poor play on the field, it has mostly been the latter with the team acting as a punching bag in some cases.
From the start of free agency, the Jets have had great energy surrounding the team both internally and externally.
The Jets were lauded for bringing in high-character veterans with winning pedigrees such as Laken Tomlinson, C.J. Uzomah, Jordan Whitehead, and others.
Then, they received universal praise for their approach to the 2022 NFL Draft, landing three players that were ranked in the top 10 on many analysts' boards (as well as their own draft board).
In recent memory, this franchise has not been in the discussion when it comes to the best draft class or smart and tactical free-agent signings.
The NY Jets have been the talk of the NFL offseason
There are also quite a few people putting their money where their mouth is, as the Jets have become a betting favorite during the offseason. To be fair, there probably is a disproportionate number of desperate Jets fans making wagers such as Super Bowl futures.
The high level of activity of bets on the team to go over their 5.5 win total however is an indicator that the betting public does see a leap that perhaps the oddsmakers do not.
And while Jets quarterback Zach Wilson does not have many NFL wins under his belt yet, on July 9th, he won the internet. Jets Twitter is a special place, and many fans will vividly remember where they were and who they were with on the day that Wilson's celebrated drama leaked out online.
The news certainly elevated the second-year quarterback's profile in the public eye, including amongst players around the NFL. It has also seemingly been a boost ability to galvanize the locker room (in addition to building camaraderie from trips he has taken with his offensive weapons and lineman).
It is understandable for Jets fans to be cynical and not take any joy from media or fan hype in the offseason considering the long drought of consistently good football.
However, the tides must eventually turn and this franchise will have sustained success (to be determined on how far the team will actually go).
Why not embrace the possibility that this could be the foundation of something special to come?
While many have to see it to believe it, the coaching staff and front office haven't been as aligned as this current structure in quite some time.
This combined with the influx of talent amidst a young exciting roster should allow fans to put their warranted cynicism aside, even if it's momentarily.
Jets fans should try to enjoy the moment that the franchise is having with legitimate positivity surrounding the organization.
