NY Jets might start Zach Wilson at QB in Week 14 despite benching

Is it Zach Wilson time again?

The quarterback carousel is well and truly underway yet again in Florham Park. The NY Jets trotted out their fourth quarterback of the season on Sunday when Trevor Siemian replaced a struggling Tim Boyle in the team's Week 13 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

The Jets have now played four different quarterbacks this season: Aaron Rodgers, Zach Wilson, Boyle, and Siemian. This marks the fourth time in five years that the Jets have played four quarterbacks in a single season.

Yes, that's an accurate stat. I don't even know how that happens.

Despite turning to Siemian for the second half of Sunday's game, the Jets might be set to give the reins to the offense back to Wilson in Week 14.

The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt reported Monday morning that he "gets the sense the Jets are considering playing Zach Wilson again this season." Rosenblatt insisted he would not be surprised if Wilson started or was the primary backup in Week 14.

Zach Wilson might be the NY Jets starting QB in Week 14

Wilson was benched following the Jets' Week 11 loss to the Buffalo Bills last month. He's been inactive as the emergency third QB in each of the last two weeks, with Boyle serving as the starter and Siemian the backup.

Boyle has proven that he doesn't belong anywhere near an NFL field over the last two weeks, which should have been expected, given his abysmal track record.

Siemian struggled in relief of Boyle on Sunday, but you could argue that he deserves at least one full game as a starter. After all, he's the only QB on the roster with a track record of being an NFL-level quarterback.

At the end of the day, however, it doesn't really matter. The Jets are all but eliminated from playoff contention, and one of these three players should be considered for the backup QB job in 2024.

Whether the Jets start Wilson, Siemian, or even Boyle moving forward, the results will probably be the same. This Jets offense is not competent, and the QB solution is not on the roster.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh didn't tell reporters who his team's starting quarterback would be in Week 14 against the Houston Texans when speaking to the media after Sunday's loss. A decision could come as soon as today.

Don't be surprised if the Jets turn back to Wilson despite plans to let him sit for the remainder of the season. He might just give them the best chance to win — even if that chance is miniscule.
