Colin Cowherd is seemingly hearing Derek Carr to the NY Jets rumors

The NY Jets figure to be one of the teams most interested in Las Vegas quarterback Derek Carr. With the three-time Pro Bowler expected to be on the move this offseason, the Jets have been heavily connected to rumors regarding his future.

One such individual who seems to believe Carr to the Jets could happen is NFL analyst Colin Cowherd. Cowherd took to Twitter Thursday night and relayed a cryptic tweet that sure seemed to hint that he's been hearing some Jets/Carr rumors around the league.

Cowherd simply tweeted out three emojis: a car emoji, a plane emoji, and an ear emoji. It doesn't take expert detective skills to determine what he's implying.

This comes hours after he advocated for the Jets to target Carr on an episode of The Herd with Colin Cowherd. "Robert Saleh needs to win now. Derek Carr is that solution," Cowherd proclaimed.

Derek Carr makes a ton of sense for the NY Jets

Carr officially bid goodbye to the Raiders on Thursday after nine years with the organization. The Raiders are already exploring potential trade destinations for their longtime starting quarterback, although Carr must approve of any trade because of his no-trade clause.

If the Raiders are unable to find a trade partner before Feb. 15, it's widely believed that they will be forced to cut him. A large portion of Carr's future contract becomes fully guaranteed on that day.

That means the Jets and other teams have roughly a month to make a deal happen. If not, they'll be forced to compete with other teams on the open market and hand Carr a new contract.

Of all the realistic quarterback options available this offseason, Carr might just be the most intriguing. The former Fresno State standout has consistently been a top 12-16 quarterback for the majority of his career despite dealing with an often incompetent Raiders organization.

Carr has never played with a top-20 defense in his nine-year NFL career, he's dealt with consistently poor offensive lines in recent years, and has been a part of numerous coaching staff upheavals. All the while, he's remained at worst a league-average quarterback.

The Jets aren't looking to land their next 10+ year starter this offseason. They're looking for a competent quarterback that can get them to the playoffs and save the jobs of those in the front office and on the coaching staff.

Derek Carr could do that. As the days and weeks pass by, it seems more and more likely that Carr could end up in Florham Park before long.
