Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams have continued to flirt with the idea of a reunion on the NY Jets really since the four-time MVP was traded to New York last offseason.
While trade rumors have subsided, the two former teammates and close friends remain invested in a possible reunion one day. Adams recently confirmed that Rodgers is still "in his ear" about reuniting on the Jets, but the future Hall of Fame quarterback has his eyes on a different type of reunion.
Reporters caught up with Rodgers during his appearance at the celebrity-am event of the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, on Thursday, and they made sure to ask him about the possibility of teaming up with Adams again.
Rodgers told reporters that he "can't wait to play with ...again," prompting many Jets and general football fans to raise a few eyebrows. Of course, Rodgers was seemingly referring to another round of golf with Adams, but perhaps there's a hidden double meaning in his statement as well.
Rodgers hasn't been shy about his desire to team up with Adams again one day, so it's certainly possible he was referring to more than just golf with his comment.
Aaron Rodgers 'can't wait to play with' Davante Adams again...on the NY Jets?
There was a time not too long ago when a Davante Adams trade almost felt inevitable. The Raiders were losing, Adams was unhappy, and the Jets had an obvious need at the wide receiver position.
That all changed when the Raiders fired Josh McDaniels and went on a bit of a winning streak with Antonio Pierce as their new head coach. Rumors of Adams' unhappiness subsided and the Jets looked elsewhere for wide receiver solutions in the offseason.
An Adams trade remains a pipedream for the Jets, as it seems unlikely that the Raiders will be motivated to move him at any point. It's not impossible, though.
If the Raiders struggle to begin the 2024 season and the Jets are looking to make a trade-deadline splash, it's possible the Adams trade rumors will pop up again. Adams has no guaranteed money remaining on his deal after 2024, so the Jets would likely have to work out a new contract if a trade actually happened.
That could be challenging for a Jets team that needs to worry about extensions to players such as Sauce Gardner, Breece Hall, Jermaine Johnson, and even Garrett Wilson, among others, in the near future.
Adams wouldn't come cheap — both in trade capital and cap hit — but if the Jets are motivated to make one move superstar addition and the Raiders are willing to entertain offers, it's not outside the realm of possibility.
For now, Rodgers and Adams can settle for a reunion on the links, but don't rule out a Florham Park-centric reunion in the future.
