The NY Jets are widely seen as the odds-on favorites to trade for disgruntled Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams. The six-time Pro Bowler officially requested a trade this week and all signs point to the notion that he's played his final snap with the Raiders.
Adams will miss his team's upcoming Week 5 game this Sunday with a "hamstring injury," and it's hard to imagine he plays again with Las Vegas whenever he is deemed healthy. A trade seems highly likely at this stage.
The Jets are the obvious landing spot for Adams, given his ties to Aaron Rodgers. Adams has reportedly listed the Jets as one of his preferred landing spots and teams around the NFL seem to be under the belief that he will ultimately end up in Florham Park.
But nothing is ever certain in the ever-changing world of the NFL. There are still a number of teams interested in acquiring Adams. Those teams present an obstacle in the Jets' pursuit of a Rodgers-Adams reunion.
Which teams should Jets fans be the most concerned about? Let's take a look at five of the most realistic landing spots.
Which non-NY Jets teams could trade for Davante Adams?
1. New Orleans Saints
The Jets are reportedly one of Adams' preferred trade destinations — the Saints are the other. That's largely due to the presence of Derek Carr, another quarterback who Adams has ties to.
Adams initially joined the Raiders back in 2022 to reunite with Carr, his former college teammate at Fresno State. The reunion helped produce one of the best seasons of Adams' career, as he'd go on to finish with 100 catches for 1,516 yards and a league-leading 14 touchdowns in 2022.
Now in New Orleans, Carr could help reignite that chemistry with Adams if a trade were to happen, giving the Saints an instant boost to their already potent offense. The duo's history of success makes New Orleans an appealing landing spot for Adams, who’s looking for stability after a rocky stint with the Raiders.
Saints wide receivers coach Keith Williams also crossed paths with Adams at Fresno State and has worked with the three-time All-Pro as his personal wide receivers coach.
The finances would be tricky, but if the Saints are willing to pay a premium draft asset (likely at least a second-round pick), they might be able to convince the Raiders to eat some money and send Adams to New Orleans.
2. Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers are one of the teams to have reportedly reached out to the Raiders about a potential Adams trade. Outside of the Jets and Saints, their name has probably come up the most in trade rumors.
Pittsburgh was notably very close to trading for Brandon Aiyuk this summer before he re-signed with the San Francisco 49ers. The team has been in the market for a star wide receiver, and Adams certainly fits that bill.
Whether it's Justin Fields or Russell Wilson at quarterback, the Steelers can use another high-end playmaker opposite George Pickens. They're definitely a team to keep a close eye on in the Adams sweepstakes.
3. Buffalo Bills
The Jets aren't the only team in the AFC East sniffing around the Davante Adams market. The Bills have reportedly made calls to the Raiders about a potential Adams trade and could be very aggressive in their pursuit.
Despite a letdown this past Sunday night against the Baltimore Ravens, the Bills have looked like one of the best teams in the NFL through four weeks. This is despite Buffalo boasting one of the worst wide receiver rooms in football.
Josh Allen is working magic throwing to the likes of Keon Coleman, Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and others, but imagine if the Bills were able to replace Stefon Diggs with another All-Pro wide receiver?
Much like New Orleans, the finances would be tough to manage for the Bills, given how tight they are against the cap. But teams in the NFL often find a way if the demand is high enough. If the Jets don't land Adams in a trade, one of their rivals might.
4. Washington Commanders
The Commanders haven't been connected to Adams trade rumors as much as other teams, but the latest betting odds still suggest they're one of the most likely landing spots for the star wide receiver.
Washington has taken the NFL world by storm early in the season due in large part to the emergence of rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. The Commanders already have one excellent wide receiver in Terry McLaurin — they could add another.
The team is hurting for wide receiver help outside of McLaurin after trading away Jahan Dotson this past August. What better way to help the development of your young QB than by trading for one of the best wide receivers in the NFL?
5. Baltimore Ravens
Lamar Jackson has been begging for wide receiver help pretty much ever since he was drafted. The Ravens have had just one 1,000-yard receiver in the last seven years, that being Hollywood Brown who finished with 1,008 yards in 2021.
Davante Adams would without question be not only the best wide receiver Jackson has ever played with in the NFL, but he would legitimately have a claim to being the best receiver in Ravens history.
The Ravens have heavily leaned on their running game through the first four weeks of the season, but part of that has been due to necessity. Zay Flowers isn't a No. 1 wide receiver, and the likes of Rashod Bateman and Nelson Agholor hardly strike fear into opposing defenses.
It might be more of a pipedream for Ravens fans at this point, but there's at least some logical basis to an Adams trade, even if the team would have to create cap space. They should be considered a dark horse to land Adams.
