Olu Fashanu reveals what Geno Smith has brought to Jets offense

When the New York Jets went out and traded for Geno Smith in March, they knew exactly what they were getting.

After dealing with Justin Fields' abysmal quarterback play last season, it has to be a breath of fresh air to have someone like Smith, who has seen it all throughout his 12-year NFL career, come in and be a stabilizing presence for the Jets' offense.

Not only does Smith have NFL experience, but he knows what it takes to play quarterback in New York, and all of the pressure and responsibility that comes with it.

That prospect is not lost on his Jets' teammates, and they respect him all the more for the challenge he's taking on in his return to New York.

Olu Fashanu says Geno Smith gives Jets a sense of confidence

The Jets' young left tackle, Olu Fashanu, has dealt with quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Fields throughout his first two years in the league.

Smith is a change of pace, but Fashanu says he's bringing a new sense of confidence to the Jets offense with him to New York.

"Oh, it's awesome. From the first day that Geno came in, you could just feel a sense of confidence come into the offense. That's a guy that's been in the league for a while, and you can tell that he's a real veteran, and he just gives, like I said earlier, he just gives the offense a ton of confidence, so it's been awesome blocking for Geno."

Fashanu, now on his third quarterback in three years with the Jets, clearly is excited about what Smith brings to the Jets.

Yes, he's blocked for two veteran quarterbacks over the last two years, but both were different types of veterans.

Rodgers is a future Hall of Famer, and carried a certain level of expectations with him that the Jets eventually crumbled under.

Fields, on the other hand, had experience under his belt, but wasn't an established player like Rodgers or even Smith to a certain extent.

Geno may have never been an MVP, but he at least brings some maturity to the position that the Jets lacked over the last few years.

Hopefully, the confidence Smith is giving to the Jets offense carries through the summer and into September.
