Robert Saleh already has a new NFL job and it couldn't be more obvious

The NY Jets made the stunning decision to fire now-former head coach Robert Saleh on Oct. 8 following the team's disappointing 2-3 start to the season. A little over two weeks later, Saleh is already back in the NFL.
The ex-Jets coach was spotted at Green Bay Packers practice on Wednesday and appears to have joined the organization in an official capacity. Rather than take the rest of the season off and focus on 2025, Saleh couldn't stay away from the game for long.
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters on Wednesday that Saleh had been hired as an offensive consultant. Yes, offensive. The plan is for Saleh to work in a part-time role where he can help offer a defensive perspective to the Packers' offense.
LaFleur referred to it as a "fluid" role before revealing that Saleh had spent the week at his house. Saleh and LaFleur have a very close relationship, as the latter has credited the former with helping him break into the coaching world. That's why this pairing should come as no surprise.
Former NY Jets coach Robert Saleh is already back in the NFL
Saleh and LaFleur first worked together at Central Michigan as graduate assistants in 2004, even sharing an apartment together. It was Saleh who helped get LaFleur his first job in the NFL, convincing then-Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak to bring him on as an offensive assistant.
Saleh even served as the best man at LaFleur's wedding and later hired his brother, Mike, to be his offensive coordinator with the Jets. This was the most obvious landing spot possible for Saleh, even if most assumed it wouldn't be so soon.
The Jets have moved on from the Saleh era, although it's hard to argue they've been better off. The team has lost both of their games since firing Saleh with increasing comments about a lack of energy and effort in the team's locker room.
That's not an encouraging sign, seeing as owner Woody Johnson told reporters he fired Saleh to provide a spark to the Jets' players. Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich has not been able to accomplish that to this point.
LaFleur told reporters that he believes the Jets made a mistake firing Saleh, joking that he insisted his friend take time off after his departure from New York. Obviously, Saleh didn't heed that advice.
This is almost definitely a temporary position for Saleh, who is expected to be among the most in-demand defensive coordinator candidates available this coming offseason. For now, Saleh will kick it in Green Bay with his best friend while his former team fights to keep their season alive.
