The NY Jets fired Robert Saleh to provide a spark to a struggling 2-3 team that was trying to salvage its season. They fired Saleh to give Aaron Rodgers and the Jets every opportunity to accomplish their goals of reaching the postseason and beyond.

Instead, everything got worse.

The Jets completely imploded against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night, allowing 31 unanswered points to turn a 15-6 lead into a 37-15 beatdown in front of a national audience. It all happened so suddenly. It's as if the Jets' season was slipping away from them and they were powerless to stop it.

Rodgers played what might have been his worst game as a member of the Jets, which is concerning in and of itself. But what's even more concerning is a quote Rodgers offered to reporters following the game.

"It felt like the energy — and it starts with me — the energy, for whatever reason at halftime, was a little flat. It felt like it was flat before the game too… So I look at myself and what I can do to bring better energy, but we all have to do better. I mean, Sunday Night Football on NBC, the only show on TV. I live for these games and I just don't quite understand why the energy was a little bit flat."

Aaron Rodgers takes subtle jab at NY Jets coaching staff after another loss

Rodgers insisted that the energy was flat, not only at halftime but before the game. This was, for all intents and purposes, a must-win game for the Jets. A 2-5 record with this roster would be almost unfathomable.

But here we are. The Jets are 2-5 with Davante Adams, Aaron Rodgers, and Haason Reddick joining the team in a few days. They have roughly 10 players under contract who have made an All-Pro team or received a Pro Bowl nod over the last three seasons.

This roster should be enough, but it just isn't. Jets owner Woody Johnson hoped that firing Saleh would provide the spark the Jets needed to capitalize on their talented roster. But Rodgers' quote shows that didn't work.

The Jets once again came out flat in a do-or-die primetime game and got steamrolled. That was a staple of the Robert Saleh era. Evidently, the issue extends beyond Saleh and to the rest of the coaching staff and the locker room.

This is not a good football team. Right now, it's one of the worst teams in the NFL. That's downright unbelievable given the talent on this roster.

The Jets are a sinking ship in danger of completely capsizing if things don't change in a hurry. Unfortunately for Johnson, he doesn't have a head coach he can point fingers at this time.
