NY Jets linked to 2 uninspiring WR2 options after latest Davante Adams news

The NY Jets have already announced that they are moving on from quarterback Aaron Rodgers after their full-court press blew up in their face. Wide receiver Davante Adams, who was only in New York because of Rodgers, will also be on his way out of town soon.

Adams will either be traded or released in the coming days, as the Jets are unwilling to pay his huge salary. The Jets essentially torched a third-round pick for a handful of solid games when they were out of playoff contention. Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey will need to dig this team out of the hole in which it finds itself.

The Jets aren't seemingly ready to spend a ton of money in their first free agency with the new regime intact. New York has been linked to multiple secondary wide receivers who won't ignite any dormant flames in this fanbase's heart.

According to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, sources have connected the Jets to former Lions and Broncos wideout Tim Patrick as well as Los Angeles Chargers starter Josh Palmer in free agency. Neither of them is going to provide anywhere close to the same impact Adams would have if retained.

NY Jets linked to Josh Palmer, Tim Patrick in free agency

Patrick, who will turn 32 in November, has connections to both Mougey, due to his time in Denver, as well as both Glenn and new offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand in Detroit. Patrick's two best seasons were in 2020 and 2021, where he topped 700 yards twice before a torn ACL and Achilles forced him to miss two whole seasons.

Palmer, like Patrick, has struggled with injuries. Palmer, who has recorded just under 1,200 yards and three touchdown receptions in the last two seasons, has shown to excel at making contested catches, but many Chargers fans feel like he is leaving plenty of meat on the overall bone.

Palmer's production, however limited it may be, could also be the result of playing alongside an elite quarterback in Justin Herbert. If the Jets bring in either of these two without some serious competition, 2025 could be another long year on the offensive side of the ball for New York.

With Allen Lazard likely to be cut, Adams surely on the move, and Malachi Corely essentially regarded as loose change under the couch after 2024 destroyed whatever positive evaluation he may have had, Palmer and Patrick may not be the standout pass catchers fans were hoping to see this season.
