The NY Jets could be on the verge of hiring not just their new head coach but their general manager as well. The team is scheduled to interview Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and Washington Commanders assistant general manager Lance Newmark on the same day.
Glenn and Newmark, who previously worked together in Detroit, have long been viewed as a natural head coach-general manager duo for the Jets. With both now scheduled for second interviews, a hire could be imminent.
The buzz is certainly there. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Monday night that the Jets could hire Glenn — and likely Newmark — as early as Tuesday if the interview process goes well.
Glenn reportedly plans to meet with the New Orleans Saints for a second interview on Wednesday, but there's no guarantee he will leave Florham Park without a contract. It's certainly notable that he chose to meet with the Jets first.

FOX Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported on Monday that Glenn is "very interested" in the Jets' job and that the feeling appears to be mutual. While Schultz mentioned that the Saints are still in the mix, the Jets appear to be the odds-on favorites at the moment,
Glenn's decision to meet with the Jets first, despite interest from several other teams, doesn't guarantee his return to New York, but it does indicate his initial preference.
Nothing is set in stone yet. The in-person interview process is vital for determining whether candidates are the right fit for the organization, and vice versa. However, at this moment, all signs point to Glenn being the next Jets head coach.
A former Pro Bowl cornerback, Glenn spent eight years playing with the Jets in the '90s and also started his post-playing career as a personnel scout with the team in 2012. He has deep ties to the Jets organization and has a ton of fans in the building.
As for Newmark, he spent 25+ years in the Detroit Lions organization, working his way up from an area scout to the team's senior director of player personnel before he left to join the Commanders last offseason.
Newmark played an instrumental role in the Lions' turnaround under general manager Brad Holmes and was able to do the same alongside Adam Peters in Washington this past year.
As of now, no other Jets candidates have been confirmed for second interviews with the organization. Glenn and Newmark are the only known finalists for the Jets' head coach and general manager positions, and it’s possible the team won’t need to consider other candidates.
The Jets could usher in a new era with a new head coach and general manager as soon as today. Stay tuned.
