The NY Jets might be on the verge of signing a new quarterback. The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt is reporting that there's "increasing optimism" that the Jets will be able to land Justin Fields in free agency.

Rosenblatt confirms there is "still work to be done" and that it's possible the Pittsburgh Steelers or another team could swoop in and alter plans, but as of right now, the Jets appear to have a "good shot" to land their preferred quarterback option.

The Jets identified Fields as their top quarterback target early in free agency, with reports in recent weeks confirming their strong interest in the former Bears QB. The team remains cautiously optimistic about their chances of landing him.

The Steelers remain in the mix for Fields, but the holdup appears to stem from their reluctance to guarantee him a starting job. The Jets, however, don’t seem to share that hesitation.

NY Jets closing in on a Justin Fields signing

The Jets enter the offseason in search of a new quarterback after making the decision to move on from Aaron Rodgers after two disappointing years last month. Rodgers could coincidentally find a home in Pittsburgh if Fields lands with the Jets.

The four-time MVP is reportedly in talks with the Steelers, and while no deal is imminent at this time, conversations could accelerate if Pittsburgh misses out on Fields. That scenario seems increasingly likely.

The Jets are in search of a bridge quarterback to add to a QB room that already includes veteran journeyman Tyrod Taylor and 2024 fifth-round pick Jordan Travis. Fields gives them a veteran bridge quarterback with legitimate upside.

Reports suggest that if the Jets are unable to sign Fields, their backup plans include Carson Wentz and Marcus Mariota. That’s why many Jets fans are eager for the team to close a deal with Fields.

The Jets appear to be inching closer to a deal with their top quarterback target. The Justin Fields pipedream could become a reality very soon.
