NFL media kicks Jeff Ulbrich, Jets while they're down as Colts choke job ends season
By Mike Luciano
The NY Jets won seven games in 2023 with the deplorable Zach Wilson/Tim Boyle quarterback room. They upgraded in a major way with Aaron Rodgers as the starting quarterback, as he has 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Improvements were made at left tackle, edge rusher, and wide receiver. Somehow, the team is 3-8.
Fresh off a 28-27 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in which the Jets blew a home lead in the fourth quarter, Jeff Ulbrich and the rest of the team are well and truly cooked. The media has brought the knives out for this team often, and they aren't resting now.
ESPN's Mike Greenberg declared this team "the worst coached team in the history of sports" while taking a shot at owner Woody Johnson for his now infamous "thinking is overrated" quote.
Emmanuel Acho of Fox Sports declared that Rodgers looks disinterested on the field, and compared his recent play to "collecting checks." Mike Vaccaro of the New York Post called the Jets "poorly coached" under Robert Saleh, but deemed them "uncoached" under Ulbrich.

The Jets' best year to contend was 2023. The defense was the best in the league, Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson were at the peak of their powers, and Rodgers didn't have a torn Achilles. Four plays into that season, the Jets' entire future was thrown into turmoil they never truly recovered from.
Rodgers has been disappointing, but his play this year has still been miles clear of anything the Jets have seen since drafting Sam Darnold. The offensive line is better, and the wide receivers are solid. Ulbrich's coaching, the defensive regression brought on by Robert Saleh's firing, and poor kicking have knee-capped the Jets this year.
It seems more likely than ever the Jets will admit this has no chance of working in the near future. Ulbrich and Joe Douglas are not going to be around long-term. This would mean parting ways with Rodgers, Davante Adams, and the other characters that have created this uniquely painful Jets season.
The song remains the same for the Jets. In 2025, a new coach and GM will be picking high in the draft, likely using the pick to select a quarterback of the future. Nothing the Jets have done in almost two decades has worked, so why should fans expect the new guys to have anything up their sleeve?
