New Jets CB humiliates former team with savage postgame comments

Jarvis Brownlee Jr. is quickly becoming a name Jets fans won’t forget — and neither will the Tennessee Titans.

A little over a month after being traded from Tennessee in a late-round pick swap, the second-year cornerback not only sealed the Jets' dramatic 39–38 win over the Cincinnati Bengals with a fourth-down breakup but also delivered one of the coldest postgame quotes of the season.

The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt revealed on a recent episode of Jets Final Drive that Brownlee was in the locker room speaking to reporters after the game when he casually asked what time it was.

Told it was 4:57, he grinned and fired back, “Oh great, I still have time to go watch the Titans lose.” It was a perfect mix of pettiness and poetic timing aimed squarely at the team that gave up on him.

Brownlee has brought a level of intensity and attitude to the Jets' defense that was sorely lacking. His swagger has been contagious, and his recent success should make the Titans regret that short-sighted trade even more.

Jarvis Brownlee continues to make the Titans regret trading him to the Jets

Brownlee has been a revelation since arriving in Florham Park. His 75.0 Pro Football Focus grade since his Jets debut in Week 5 ranks 10th among qualified cornerbacks (min. 130 defensive snaps).

He also ranks second in the NFL since Week 5 with eight run stops and fifth among qualified cornerbacks with a 77.9 PFF coverage grade. Among nickel cornerbacks, Brownlee ranks third in overall PFF grade and second in coverage grade, respectively.

Brownlee has immediately stepped in and provided the Jets with a massive upgrade at a position that was a sizable weak spot in the team's defense. Prior to his injury. Michael Carter II had arguably been the worst nickel cornerback in the NFL to this point.

Carter's 43.0 PFF grade still ranks 111th out of 113 qualified cornerbacks through Week 8. Brownlee has not only been a significantly better player, but he's also a much better fit in Steve Wilks' aggressive man-heavy defense. Carter does not provide the same physicality that Brownlee does.

Tennessee's decision to trade Brownlee away for virtually nothing was already heavily criticized at the time. Now, given how well the former Louisville star has played with the Jets, it looks even more egregious.

The Jets will have Brownlee under contract for roughly $1 million in each of the next two seasons, giving the team another young and extremely affordable building block on defense for the foreseeable future.

And if Sunday’s comments were any indication, Brownlee hasn’t forgotten how quickly the Titans gave up on him. He continues to remind them on a weekly basis just how big a mistake that was.
