The New York Jets are as bad as any team in the league, as their decision to move fully into tank mode by placing many of their best players on IR and starting someone who is not an NFL player in Brady Cook at quarterback has put first-year head coach Aaron Glenn under some extreme scrutiny.

With the fanbase fed up after what will be the 15th consecutive season without making it to the playoffs, many want Glenn fired after just one season. With just three wins to his name, the argument can't totally be dismissed out of hand, even if there are plenty of reasons to bring him back for the 2026 season.

Having traded away Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams earlier in the season, it became clear that the organization as a whole was fine with bottoming out in the name of preserving their NFL Draft capital. As a result, the Jets don't seem too keen on finding yet another coach despite how bad 2025 has become.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated confirmed that there has been no discussion at the upper levels of the Jets organization about moving on from Glenn, who is about to complete the first season of a five-year contract. For better or worse, Glenn will be back for a second go-around.

The Jets have not discussed firing Aaron Glenn

Glenn's defense, which was led by the recently fired Steve Wilks, has not recorded an interception all season long, all while ranking at or near the bottom in many important categories. With the Justin Fields gamble having come up snake eyes, many don't want Glenn near whichever quarterback the Jets add in 2026.

However, is it fair to ask a coach to win games with Cook as his starting quarterback, a defense full of Robert Saleh holdovers that clearly do not want to be there, and a bunch of UDFA-caliber talents? Is it Glenn's fault that Cook vs. Drake Maye turned out to be as lopsided as it was?

Even though Glenn is on a short leash, he will have every opportunity possible to get this thing turned around in 2026. Not only will they have a top pick in the 2026 NFL Draft that can be used to select a quarterback, but they also have oodles of cap space and three additional top 50 picks.

No one likes to lose like this, but the roster has fallen apart to the point where even the best coaches would struggle to get anything done here. Glenn deserves one more year in 2026, but if he struggles after this offseason, no fan should be surprised or upset at his dismissal.
