The New York Jets got obliterated 42-10 on Sunday afternoon against the New England Patriots at MetLife Stadium. With the loss, Aaron Glenn and the Jets drop to 3-13 on the season with one game remaining.

It was more of the same from the Jets, as the team was once again uncompetitive from the opening kickoff. Drake Maye and the Patriots' starting offense reached the end zone on all six of their offensive drives before being taken out of the game.

From start to finish, this game was pure humiliation for the Jets, who didn't even resemble an NFL team for the entire afternoon. Even with the Jets' severe lack of talent in all phases of the game, that shouldn't excuse Sunday's performance.

Glenn's first season has been marked with plenty of blowout losses, which not only shows how poorly he has coached this team, but also shows a brutal miscalculation of his in the offseason.

Aaron Glenn's brutal miscalculation is getting exposed as Jets' struggles continue

When Glenn took over the reins in Florham Park back in January, he quickly made his stance on the state of the team clear. Unlike previous regimes which preached patience, Glenn did the opposite.

From the moment the franchise legend took over, he preached that the Jets can and were in a win-now mode. Throughout the offseason, Glenn continued this stance by preaching that this Jets coaching staff would make a huge difference from a year ago.

In 2024, the Jets blew six fourth-quarter leads, which was a franchise record. Under Robert Saleh and Jeff Ulbrich, New York also finished atop the NFL in penalties with 137, ultimately leading to a tumultuous 5-12 season.

Glenn and the Jets, seeing this, thought they could come in and, in year one with a new coaching staff, retool while staying competitive. With one game remaining in this miserable 2025 season, it's safe to say this stance has completely backfired.

Multiple key players, specifically on the defensive side of the football, have seen significant regression under Glenn's leadership. Will McDonald, Jermaine Johnson, Jamien Sherwood, and Quincy Williams, who were all viewed as top players on this defense, have all taken major steps backward.

Sherwood's regression is arguably the most alarming, as Darren Mougey and Aaron Glenn extended him in the offseason, clearly thinking he was a building block piece. As this season comes to a close, Sherwood's future is now in question.

Glenn and Mougey also handed $30 million guaranteed to Justin Fields and talked over and over again about how the right coaching will turn his career around. Fields has since been benched and played some of the worst football of his career with the Jets this season.

Glenn's confidence and cockiness throughout the entire offseason, which included multiple bouts with the media, have completely backfired. What was viewed as a team that could be competitive has now turned into a roster with holes everywhere.

Glenn wasn't even able to make it through a full season with all three coordinators, as Steve Wilks was fired after an embarrassing performance against the Jaguars in Week 15.

The chances of Woody Johnson making a change at head coach after just one season are very low. However, Glenn's first season in Florham Park has been nothing short of a disaster, and there is no reason to believe he will learn from these inexcusable mistakes.
