Nick Folk was the best kicker the New York Jets had in years last season, and now that he's with the Atlanta Falcons, they'll be searching for someone to replace him with a wide-ranging competition this summer.

The Jets already had veteran Cade York and international prospect Lenny Krieg on the roster, but they added a new face to the mix with former Pro Bowler Younghoe Koo.

SNY's Connor Hughes reported that the Jets were signing the eight-year veteran on Wednesday evening, despite his recent struggles with the New York Giants.

Could Koo run away with the kicking competition? If he can turn back the clock to his peak Atlanta days, he's got a real good shot.

Jets add Younghoe Koo to spice up kicking competition

Koo was one considered one of the league's best kickers, making a Pro Bowl in 2020 and recording a field goal make percentage of 90%-plus in both 2020 and 2021.

The South Korean native is a career 85.3% kicker, 95.9% on extra points, and has a career-long field goal of 58 yards.

His most recent body of work isn't the greatest. The Falcons benched Koo after just one game into the regular season and cut him shortly before Week 3.

He was picked up by the Giants in late September and would make his first appearance in Week 10 due to an injury to Graham Gano.

Koo would go on to make headlines for all the wrong reasons in a Week 13 game against the New England Patriots, when he managed to miss the ball entirely on a 47-yard field goal attempt. He was waived two weeks later.

The veteran kicker clearly has some work to do with his game, but it's not like experienced players have been able to refind their kicking before. Folk, who kicked incredibly for the Jets last season, was out of the league in 2018 before making a comeback with the New England Patriots in 2019.

It's not like his competition isn't all that staunch. York has a 73.3% field goal percentage with two years under his belt in the NFL, and has a career-long of 59 yards.

Krieg, a former soccer player, has never attempted a kick in an NFL game before, and spent the entire 2025 season on the Falcons' practice squad.

It will be an interesting process to watch play out this summer.
