The New York Jets are once again on the hunt for their long-term place kicker this offseason, after parting ways with their incumbent starter for the last two seasons.

In 2024, it was Greg Zuerlein. Last year, it was a familiar face in Nick Folk, who had quite the season kicking for the Jets. He decided to take his talents to the Atlanta Falcons in free agency.

As things currently stand, the Jets have three kickers on their roster who figure to compete for the starting gig over the summer. Veteran Cade York, international prospect Lenny Krieg, and undrafted free agent Will Ferrin.

All three will have a chance at the opening day spot, of course, but only one can win it.

Jets' special teams coach Chris Banjo reveals update on kicking competition

Speaking with reporters Wednesday morning, Jets special teams coach Chris Banjo was asked about the Jets' current kicking situation, and he gave a swift response.

"When you talk about Lenny (Krieg), when you talk about Cade (York), both guys who are very, very talented and we're excited to have them in the building and we're just looking forward to the process, looking forward to attacking it every single day, and I think they are as well too."

Now, Banjo didn't mention the undrafted free agent, Ferrin. But that could be due to the fact that the team has yet to officially announce UDFA signings.

In the meantime, the Jets' kicker competition is all but wide-open. York has the most experience among himself, Krieg, and Ferrin, but it's not necessarily great experience. In two years kicking in the NFL, he has a 73.3% field goal percentage, and has a career-long of 59 yards.

Krieg has never kicked in the NFL before, but spent the entire 2025 season on the Falcons' practice squad. The former soccer player probably still needs some refinement.

Finally, Ferrin, the former BYU kicker, has a decent amount of experience, given that he was kicking in college football for five seasons. He started at Boise State before ending his final three years with the Cougars.

He didn't get many opportunities at Boise, but at BYU, he appeared in 39 games and made 58 of 71 field goal attempts. Ferrin's career-long was a 56-yarder this past season.

There's a long way to go until Banjo and the Jets have to decide who will be their kicker in 2026, but they currently have three solid options to choose from on the roster.
