Even though the New York Jets are in need of a long-term answer at the quarterback position, it seems unlikely that Darren Mougey is going to invest a ton of capital in the 2026 NFL Draft to find someone who could eventually take the reins of this offense.
It would behoove the Jets, who still don't have a worthwhile backup quarterback, to use one of their Day 3 picks to bring in a developmental quarterback who could eventually take the offensive reins if they manage to work out some of the rough edges in their styles of play.
ESPN's Rich Cimini has once again linked the Jets to a quarterback on Day 3. In keeping with Frank Reich's history of trusting bigger pocket passers with strong arms above all else, the Jets may roll the dice on one of the most volatile players in this class.
Cimini said the Jets could be expected to select a quarterback in the fourth round of the NFL Draft, once again mentioning Penn State's Drew Allar as a possible pick due to his strong performance at a workout with the top brass.

Allar has every bit of physical tools one could hope to see in a top quarterback prospect. With a rocket launcher of an arm, enough pocket mobility to avoid sacks, and some nice ball placement when kept clean, Allar's ceiling is that of a solid starting quarterback at the next level.
The problem is that there is often a buffer between what Allar wants to do and what he is capable of doing. With a slow trigger in the pocket, some accuracy issues, and underperformance against schools he should be wiping the floor with, Allar may be yet another toolsy prospect who never puts it together.
However, Allar may have more upside than any of the other Day 3 quarterbacks out there. North Dakota State's Cole Payton is coming from an FCS school, Arkansas' Taylen Green is even more behind as a pure pocket passer, and Miami's Carson Beck is worse under pressure.
Allar's arm is going to get him picked, and Frank Reich has had success with big-armed passers like him in the past, and that confluence might be enough to get Allar picked high by the Jets and designated as the next young quarterback who could possibly get a chance to lead this team.
