The New York Jets are finally getting some help back at wide receiver. The Associated Press' Dennis Waszak Jr. reported Saturday afternoon that Tim Patrick was being activated from injured reserve. In a corresponding move, the Jets waived wide receiver Jamaal Pritchett.
New York has been pretty thin at wide receiver since the start of the season. A once promising group began dropping like flies once rookie Omar Cooper Jr. suffered an ankle sprain in Week 1, and Adonai Mitchell's mysterious finger injury popped up ahead of Week 3.
Patrick had been on injured reserve since the start of the season and has yet to play a snap for the Jets. He's sure to see a pretty serious workload this week, with both Mitchell and Cooper still out.
The veteran may not be as dynamic as a pass catcher as the likes of his younger teammates, but his ability to run block should be a boon to the offense.
New York Jets say goodbye to Jamaal Pritchett
In order to make room on the 53-man roster, the Jets waived their former undrafted free agent wideout, Pritchett. Despite the move, there's still a possibility that Pritchett could be re-signed to the practice squad once he clears waivers.
The Jets signed Pritchett to the active roster from their practice squad ahead of Week 3, with all of their injuries at wide receiver. He filled in as a returner for the injured Kene Nwangwu and returned one kickoff for 27 yards. He did not appear in Week 4 against the Chicago Bears.
Interestingly enough, the Jets opted not to elevate any other wide receivers for Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns. Veteran Sterling Shepard, who was active for the team's last two games, would either need to be signed to the active roster or released after a third elevation.
Linebacker Jaden Keller elevated for a second consecutive week
The lone practice squad elevation reported by Waszak was for linebacker Jaden Keller, who will see his second straight week of action after being active for the Jets' Week 4 game in Chicago.
Keller ended up playing 15 snaps last week against the Bears, all of which came on special teams. He recorded one tackle.
The former Virginia Tech standout has yet to see a snap on defense, but serves as valuable insurance in case of injuries. There was a thought that he could've been a replacement option for Jamien Sherwood if his struggles persisted, but the up-and-down veteran had a much better outing against the Bears in Week 4 than against the Detroit Lions a week earlier.
