He's got a chance!

The New York Jets have been dealing with a case of the injury bug to start the 2026 season, and it hasn't made life easy for Aaron Glenn's team. The offense, in particular, has been dealt a heavy hand with some of the members of the starting lineup.

Wide receiver, which was seen as a strength to start the year, has been whittled down to a weakness. Veteran Tim Patrick went on injured reserve the day before the season began; Omar Cooper Jr. suffered an ankle injury against the Tennessee Titans that has cost him valuable time, and even Adonai Mitchell has missed the last two games nursing a finger injury.

But the Jets got a stroke of good news on Wednesday morning, as The New York Post's Brian Costello reported that New York is opening the practice window for Patrick, as he has served the allotted four-game absence before having a chance to come back.

It's likely not the wide receiver Jets fans wanted to see returning, but it's help and depth nonetheless, and right now, beggars can't be choosers, especially when it comes to the current shape of the depth chart.

Tim Patrick set to return to New York Jets practice

Now, just because Patrick is having his practice window opened doesn't necessarily mean he'll be suiting up for the Jets' Week 5 tilt against the Cleveland Browns. He has a chance, but it isn't likely.

The more probable outcome is Patrick slowly ramping up throughout practice this week and getting his body ready for when the Jets travel to Foxborough and take on the New England Patriots in Week 6.

Regardless, his return will be a welcome addition to the Jets' receiving core. He may not be a star, but he has more experience and has the capability to be more consistent than the likes of some of New York's practice squad call-ups, like Malik McClain or Jamaal Pritchett.

Is Omar Cooper Jr. next to return for the New York Jets?

Hopefully, the next up off injured reserve will be one of their three first-round draft picks, Cooper. Considering he was active, at least for the start of Week 1, he still needs to miss at least one more game before the Jets open his practice window.

Not only is Cooper's absence hurting the Jets' offense, but it's hurting his own development as well. As a young player, he needs to be playing and learning what it's like to be an NFL wide receiver on a week-to-week basis.

Hopefully, Patrick's return is soon, and Cooper isn't far behind him.
