The NY Jets are not expected to make the postseason in 2025, as the switch from the Aaron Rodgers regime to a new group led by Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey could be the precursor to a 2025 season marked by some learning experiences that reflect poorly on the overall record.
The Jets were shown some mercy by the 2025 NFL schedule, as the combination of their poor record from last season and weak opponents could lead to New York getting an easier ride than many rebuilding teams out there.
The Jets ranked 26th in average strength of schedule, which is the byproduct of a 5-12 season giving them an easier go of it in 2025. Four of the teams below them are in the NFC West or South (Cardinals, Panthers, 49ers, Saints), while only two AFC teams (Titans, Patriots) have a less hectic ride than the Jets.
The AFC East as a whole got it easy in 2025. The Patriots have the third-easiest schedule, while the Bills and Dolphins ranked 23rd and 21st, respectively. The crosstown rival Giants, however, were dealt a very bad hand, as they have the hardest schedule in the league.
Jets handed 26th-hardest 2025 schedule in the NFL
The Jets need all the help they can get from the schedule makers. The roster lost multiple impact players after Rodgers was cut loose, Justin Fields is still a player who needs to turn himself into a solid starting quarterback, and Garrett Wilson is the only proven pass-catcher who can make an impact.
The Jets will face off against the lackluster NFC South, which could help them pick up a few timely wins. The AFC North is where things will get tough, as all four of the teams in that division have made the playoffs at least once in the past three seasons.
New York has the benefit of playing against a fairly beatable division. While the Bills are one of the best teams in the league, the Dolphins have some issues that could cause some serious consternation, and the Patriots are in the same boat as New York in terms of building a winner.
Glenn's group will not be expected to be a contender, which could give them spoiler status against many of the better teams in the league. Will Glenn be able to motivate his team enough to turn them into a team that can surprise in 2025?
