The NY Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers seem poised to swap quarterbacks ahead of the 2025 NFL season, as Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey managed to lure Justin Fields away from the black and gold while Aaron Rodgers lines up a move to join Mike Tomlin.

After the Jets' plan to compete for a championship went up in smoke, this new regime decided that the outside noise was not worth whatever benefits his arm can bring to the table. The Steelers appear to be seduced by the siren song of that Hall of Fame-worthy right arm.

The ceiling the Steelers could reach with Rodgers in the fold is fairly high, but not everyone is sold on the idea that Rodgers going from New York to Pittsburgh is going to be what turns this Pittsburgh team into the contender they want to be.

Bleacher Report ranked the Steelers' ongoing pursuit of Rodgers as the third-worst decision of the 2025 NFL offseason, citing the fact that the sideshow that comes with bringing him to town will not be enough to take Pittsburgh from a good team to a Super Bowl contender.

Steelers' Aaron Rodgers pursuit being ripped shows Jets made right call

Rodgers can still play this game at a high level, as he threw for just under 4,000 yards and 28 touchdowns last year despite Adam Gase-level bad coaching from Jeff Ulbrich and some utter chaos behind the scenes that doesn't fall directly on his very broad shoulders.

However, Rodgers is going to be 42 years old in the 2025 season, and his mobility has declined to the point where his trademark throws on the run are becoming much less frequent. Rodgers' ability to always keep his name and team in the headlines is going to be something Steelers fans won't be thrilled with.

The Jets have moved on with Fields, a player who Steelers fans were upset they let walk out the door. If Rodgers does not sign with them, one of either Mason Rudolph or rookie sixth-round pick Will Howard will be in line to start as a rookie. Calling that suboptimal is the understatement of the year.

Rodgers can provide much better quarterback play than Rudolph, even in a very limited state. However, with all of the outside hullabaloo that comes with bringing him to town, it's not unrealistic to suggest that the Jets leaning on Fields would be a much more prudent opportunity.
